A lad in work here just got caught out with his Megane (low mileage, 2004) estate a few weeks back.  The compressor for the air con didn't trip out when he shut down the engine and drained the battery on him.  Water got into the fuse box or something.  He was telling me that back in the day he had a Renault 19 or 21 and it went through 2 or 3 clutch cables because there was some problem that manifested itself in the LHD-RHD conversion, either the clutch cable was overstretching or it was chafing on something in the RHD model.

I've no personal experience myself with Renaults but if it was me I'd get the quare wan to get the Yaris or some other Jap since it'd be me getting the phone call to pick her up when the thing breaks down.  My other half is in the same situation and for an easy life I'm steering her towards the Toyotas away from all that French crap that women seem to be drawn to.  Having said that I do owe Peugeot for teaching me most of what i know about car mechanics since I used spend my weekends teaching myself how to fix whatever broke the previous week so that I could drive the car to work the following week.

i'd stay miles away from a renault but not all french cars are crap i work on citroen and there small cars are fairly good the saxo and the c2 and c3 are decent enough and the peugeot 206 is a great little car

I agree 206 is very reliable...
Honestly I didn't see any single Clio without blinking lights on the dash ... sooner or later that's gonna happen.

Get a little saxo. I've had a couple down through the years. Never had a problem with them but going for a jap car is wisest

I'll try and tell her to stick with the jap's or try for a saxo, but you know women, she likes "the bubble" shape. :wall: Can't live with them......

I had a clio a few years back and never had any trouble with it.Daughter has a 00 since christmas and all going well so far

Me ma has had clios/megans for the last 20 or so years and never had any problems with them.Braes on the megan take a bit of getting used to_One slight touch and it stops.

:smokin:

Fingers crossed we'll geta decent one, trying to twist her arm into getting a Subaru or even another Starlet, there's a lovely little 96 import Glanza auto with
