RTE covering Rally Ireland

Is it me or could rte have done must of the shows during the week. The interviews were good with donnelly and Nesbit but if there was five minutes of stages in an hour long show it was a lot and when the little clip was shown they were only in a straight line. Euro sport have half an hour wall to wall of the cars and its ten times better :angry1: :angry1:

rant over

Check out Dave's coverage at 6 his evening. You cann't bet them for WRC.

they've no problem showing ireland playin azrebajan or whoever in soccer for 90 minutes but they cant show half an hour of rallying,,maybe i'm just biased cos i'd have more interest in watchin dirty nickers gettin washed than watch soccer!! :new_2gunsfiring_v1:

I like Jennings, not a bad pilot & he drove the socks off that evo this weekend, put on a good show for the spectators.

Did you make it to Donegal in time Tom?

yea got up to the super special and got a great spot in the town center
im absalutly bollixed now though drove over 800 kms yesterday :new_gmorning:
hope everybody got home safe

The Rally got feck all media coverage over the 3 days to be fair the only good coverage i could find was Ocean Fm giving constant updates.
Its bad form really from an Irish point of view when you think that we get a major sporting Competition of this on in Ireland & theres damn all about it on the papers news etc.
Were long enough whinging about the economy but a competition like this is massive boost to the country and the north west & could have knock on effects for future tourism.
Its a pity really but i suppose Rallying is a minority sport in this country compared to GAA , Football rugby etc.

The only mention of the rally in the Independent NP yesterday was a TV listing for the highlights on TV last night :wall:

The RTE coverage was crap because it's made by RTE and also because they didn't have the rights to show any coverage other than one tiny clip.

Thankfully the coverage on Eurosport and Dave was good but the media in Ireland don't give a damn about rallying as it doesn't generate any revenue for them from advertising.

To make matters worse Today FM were still playing the ad with Mc Hale advising everyone to "keep the race in its place" last night at 8pm  Eh, someone should have told those gobsh1tes in Today FM the rally ended 5 hours beforehand. I wouldn't be surprised if they were still playing it

If it doesn't involve an inflated piece of leather and a rectangular field with prancing premadonnas its not going to get aired. The only reason we even get F1 coverage is because it lends itself to a TV format which can generate advertsiing revenue. Basically its all down money so no matter how popular rallying is in Ireland its always going to be a dead duck as far as TV coverage goes.
