Selling a second-hand scoob?

Howye lads, new to the forum. I'm hoping to buy a MY02/MY03 impreza WRX next year from the UK. Just wondering what people's experience is of shifting them second hand? Is there much of a market or does the specialist nature of the car push down the prices a little? I had an argument with a lad who brought in a mint C-Class Merc who reckons I should go a little more mainstream to make selling on easier. The only thing is I've me heart set on a scoob, there's plenty of time for auld fellas cars like the Merc when I'm an auld fella. So are they easy enough to shift?

Hiya Doggy, welcome aboard  Of course everyone will have different experiences of selling their scooby, there do seem to be more of them available than a few years ago, but then again, there must be a lot more buyers too as they are becoming more affordable. What we hope is that once you get behind the wheel that your question about selling on will become irrelevant as you'll love the experience so much :subaru:

Welcome to the Site

Id say they are quite hard to sell but a buyer always comes along but you could be waiting a good fe months.

if you havin even got the car yet and all ready thinkin of sellin her ,dont even think about buying one ,you can bearly sell them for half the price you payed for them even only a few months later but then again you might get lucky but you wiil definatly lose big if you want to sell quick.dont get me wrong i love these cars im on my second one but you just cant sell them, you only have to look at carzone.ie or autotrader.ie to find out.ive been keepin an i on them over the last year or two and theres cars still on there for sale now that i seen for sale a year ago.if you look into it the best thing to do is buy a limited edition one eg.rb5 p1 22b, and then you have a chance of gettin your money back but if you buy one of these i can gauranty you wont want to sell it :subaru:

iIv had 3 scoobys and the biggest problem is sifting throught the azzholes that ring and want a viewing,at first you think everybody is a protential buyer, then after alot of time wasting you know by the questions there asking.ie service history, who done the work on the car etc,not like the muppet questions,is it fast, what bhp, would it beat a civic/evo etc.As said already most people will keep there scooby, and most on here have had more than one,or if they sold it, they normally buy another one later on down the road.

Thanks for the advice lads, that's pretty mcuh as I expected i.e. tough enough to sell and sifting through scobes. Once I buy it, I I don't intend selling it too quickly, i.e. 2 or 3 years. I'd say I'll only be selling it on to finance a newer model, all going well. There's always a trade-in as a last resort. Anything in paricular I should be looking out for on a MY03 WRX. I intend sticking below about 40 thousand miles and only taking one with a FSH by either Subaru or a specialist. I reckon once I have those two and it's HPI clear, then it's all good.

Anyway, it's academic now since I have my heart set on one - the product of a mis-spent youth standing on ditches and listening to Fisher, Nesbitt etc blasting those flat fours down country lanes. :subaru:

your right dave,i shouldnt even talk to people standing anywhere near a ledge or cliff
what do you think on this with all your buying and selling experience .am i right or wrong?

Yeah defo correct. if set on a new shape a 01 STi would be a safer option then wrx. Pref White. But extremely hard to find a UK one.

where are you located doggy, ave been told of a 2000 uk for sale near portadown, will go see it today and get pics and prices just to give ya some idea
i myself ave a 2002 bug eye sti prodrive

Jonny, I'm in Dublin but am from Offaly. Thanks a mil for the offer but I'm looking at February/March before I can get the cash together. I am limiting myself to a 2002/3/4 model because they're a bit rarer than the classic (albeit reputedly a bit more refined and less 'raw'). Looking for low enough miles too to minimise risk of having to spend big money on replacing turbos and getting work done on big ends etc in later life. So I'm still very much researching it at the moment and it'll be a couple more months before I can start kicking tyres. Thanks again

no prob doggy, never know, might sell mine in the new year, got a couple of scoob babes im lookin at the mo, wr1 for starters.........
