Skype for business

Lads I'm looking for any information anyone has on skype particularly for business users. My company has 10 leisure centres in Ireland and they want to roll out skype or a similar communication method for the management team. Do any of you have any experience or know anyone that I can chat to about this?

Any help appreciated

Hey Kbox we use it in work and find it great.

It was Eircom who supplied and installed the system. We have 12 phones
all connected through it ............so basically free calls between these phones / offices

The System is expensive about €7,000 - €8,000 in total but that's it a once off payment.
It made sense for us at the time as Our Old system was broken and beyond repair.

The only fault with the system is that if you are using your broadband it affects the sound
quality. We installed new routers that allow you to specify what bandwith any program or piece
of hardware can use .which solves the prob , but eircom don't supply them.......bit stupid in my opinion.

There are alot of company's supplying similar systems for alot cheaper but all i can say is we have it installed
now for over 3 yrs and not once has it ever broke or stopped working.

wouldn't boither with eircom, if you have exsisting broadband on site just use free skype and 10 squid handsets.
you can go all out and buy an VOIP system but if your looking for a quick free solution skype is just that. we give to buyers when they are abroad so they can talk to their admin staff from china, india where ever for free...since i rolled it out roaming charges on the mobiles has been cut in 3.
We have just invested in a new Cisco VOIP system for our HQ and stores, cost 100k but it links with AD so the management and ease of use over a pdx is brilliant.
only disadvantge of skype is you need an internet connection so if your sites are subnetted or vpn'd with no connection to the net you wont be able to connect

I use skype all the time. Brilliant program and stupidly cheap.

Keep the info coming please. I need approximately 25 phones I would think. 2 Each for every site and then 5 for Head Office for the key staff.

Skype is not really suited for Business use, but im sure most of us use it to contact
friends/family abroad which it's ideal for !!!

As Dagnut said a VOIP system is what you need.

Niall.

you need to elbarote on what you want.

do you just want them to be able to contact each other and use seperate pstn for external internal calls?
do you want a complete phone system linking internal comms and your pstn lines?
I just bought a 100k phone system as i said so give me details on your extact proposal/requirements and I'll try to advise you best I can..you can even use messenger with outlook and a headset if wanted a simple solution..you can dial from your contacts list...simple voip over your broad band...keeps it to one application.if you can come up with a free solution when they have a budget would be good news for you

@ Dagnut you have obviously done a lot of research into this if you spent that much on a phone system. Fair play to you.

I was aked by my MD to research skype or a similiar communication method for the management team. Its quite possible now that I can get away with cheap skype handsets and use a free package. There is broadband in every centre. Its static IP and not hotspot. Does that make a difference? The pc's are not set up for bluetooth but that can be remedied fairly easily though.

Its up to me to find the best method and present it to the MD when I've made a strong case for what I suggest.

I'll do a bit of research into VOIP later on just to educate myself a bit more. Then I'll be able to give a bit more detail on what I want/need
