does anyone have access to the tool used to pry a wheel bearing from a hub. car goin in for nct retest and it needed a wheel bearing, so got a new hub too and pressed the bearing onto the hub not realising the bearing has to go into the wheel carrier first.
im badly stuck cause ive allready canceled the retest and dont want to have to go trough another full test. the car is a vtr saxo and ill burn the fooker before ill spend more money on it. any one got any ideas or one of those tools?? thanks in advance

had a wheel bearing gone on my van there was no way it was coming out without a press, brought the hub carrier to a local laneway garage and he took the old one out and the new one pressed in for €50

ok lads got the bearing off the shaft and now have the whole hub carrier inc the shock off the car. anyone know where i could bring it to get the bearing pressed into the hub carrier and then the hub into the bearing.ive allready busted one bearing and want to get this done and dusted. anyone out there have a press??.

Hows it goign mate, had to do this myself on a civic before, used a press to get it out and an angle grinder and a chisel and a screw driver and a blow torch and about 6 hours.. but got the ba*tard off in the end, hardest metal I've ever come across

Anyway, going back in is a doddle compared to that, trick is put the bearing in the freezer over night or for about 12 hours and then place it in the hub carrier, you can use your old fooked bearing to push the new one in, just lay the old one exactly on top of the new one and hammer away!! Works a treat and doesn't damage the bearing, just make sure you don't hammer the old one back in the groove when the new one is in all the way, you can also heat the hub carrier with a torch to make it easier again. After that you can stick the hubs them selves into the freezer and then hammer them back in place when the bearings are back to room temp and the hubs are minus whatever from the freezer. When your hammering the hub back in, use the old bearing under neath the new one so you don;t split the inside ring on the new bearing, that would be a disaster!

Hope this helps,

Cheers

@ cill......i thought about heatin the carrier allright but didnt think of puttin the bearing into the freezer
trouble was i was trying to do all this while the hubcarrier was attached to the shock on the car. the reason being the nut on the tie rod from the shock to the anti roll bar was seized and i couldnt detach the carrier....in the end i had to grind off the nut and remove the whole shock withthe carrier attached.......also have to buy a new tie rod between now and good fiday :( ive allready wrecked a bearing trying to hammer it in so im not keen to hammer it in, but if it comes to it :computer:

@ marko im in rush.
