Speed traps - Crusheen

Hey, just got one of those fixed charge penalties in the post, and didn't even know there was a camera. Still don't know exactly where it was, just that it was in the 50kmph zone in Crusheen on the N18, so be warned! From the photo of my plate, it's impossible to make out where the camera was hidden. It all feels so underhand and sordid, somehow. Anyone else know where it is?

Hmmm, I've got to make a trip to Galway in the next couple of weeks, so you can be sure I'll be looking out for it. But I wonder if it wasn't one of the new unmarked Garda Foresters that took your pic, I've witnessed one in action between Crusheen & Ennis.

i thought they legally have to warn you about cameras?

oh and welcome to the site

tut tut, a double post by our own webmaster :noway:

I don't think so, I drive a Forester S-Turbo myself, so I tend to spot other Fozzies straight away wherever I go!

It has me mystified.

Worst is that I've gone past there 7 times since without knowing, and I'm worried about receiving more in the post...

I have seen a dark blue transit van with a camera looking out the back window before, but that was on the Nenagh bypass.

Welcome to the club mate

i'll be passin through Crusheen tomorrow and I'll keep an eye out for it !!!! :computer:

Got caught for speeding myself last night near the Coonagh roundabout in Lmk, doing 87kmh in a 60kmh zone at 2 am in the morning,
Just 3 weeks after getting a notice saying I had no more penalty point !!!!!

will keep ya posted !!

mack

I was about to become points free in 2 months time also... Last time was Newlands Cross in Dublin, 7am on a Bank Holiday Monday, empty 3 lane dual-carriageway, no-one around, and nabbed for 48 in a 40 zone. Guess they had their quotas to fill.

Soon to be privatised lads, some gatsos already taken down, have to be extra carful

The camera on the m50 coming from ballymun is gone. when are the privatiers taking over? Welcome along by the way ian0. :subaru:

Id imagine they will be much more eager to catch people as the more people they catch the more money they make :dunno:

scccaaaaggggness

id imagine that to be pure boggie, im gunna have to slow down. not that i speed anyway . . . . .

i think its still possible to "educate" yourself on how to keep your licence with certain companies in the UK :p

The current material tends to be selective about what it tells you about, so best to get the older stuff...

hope this helps....

Went slowly through Crusheen yesterday and didn't see anything :)pray:), but nobody was doing 50kmph!

And to think, all my driving days in South Africa - I used to have my plates behind my drivers seat, with old double sided tape on them - or I'd keep one in the front, and throw it up on the dash if I came to a road block or something. Have never driven a car with plates on the front nor back. I know, bad boy - but without any trace of a number on your car, they could never send you a fine. :p And if you were pulled over - the best excuse was, "Officer, this car is so fast, it keeps pulling the plates off - that's why I have to keep them inside the car". Officer, "Ok, but eh don't eh leeve them on da floor - puuta them in the windoews pleez.". There are a few things I miss about SA. :D And cops not bothered about whether or not you had plates on, was one of them. They were always to interested in the car with the scoop on the bonnet, that they never noticed the missing plates.

But I've been told it's different here......

Are you able to get private plates in Ireland - or is it the same for everyone, stock standard...?? In SA, you had normal plates - and then you could have private plates - up to 7 numbers or letters, or both - with the province abs at the end. GP for Gauteng, WP for Western Province, etc.

Another thing - if you were caught by camera - not sure about Ireland - but in SA, you could ask for copies of the permission certificates the cops would have had to obtain to trap in that area, on that given day - and only if it wasn't a dedicated camera. If they couldn't get this for you, you did not have to pay the fine - because they were breaking the law too - being there ilegally. :D Tricks and inside stories ones get when you know a few cops at the top.
