Hi All,

Having a strange problem with my 2006 2.5 wrx. Car is pretty standard.

I noticed a faint sound coming into the cabin while the car was idling - like a dull knocking sound, increasing with engine speed and eventually being drowned out around 1500-2000 revs by the sound of the engine. Difficult if not impossible to hear in the engine bay.

I asked my mechanic to take a look, he could hear it but could not figure out where from, he had suspected the passenger side cylinder head but was not prepared to go stripping it as he had a big backlog of work and no real space for what could turn into a big job potentially.

So I got the car home, it had sat for two weeks and there was a CEL so I just cleared the code with a cheap reader, didn't even check the code - often throws up a MAF code after sitting up. Car starts up - drives perfect and noise is gone.

The next day when, I started it I got a p2005 for the TGV valve stuck open - got that sorted and cleared the codes but now the noise had returned in the cabin.

My MAP sensor also seems to have failed - cannot get a second hand one (tried Olly). Car is idling so low with that problem that it is difficult to tell if there is any noise currently.

Long story short, looking for someone around Connacht/Midlands to take a look at it. I have gotten parts off Finnegans in Ballymahon before and found Peter there very helpful so I could trailer it to their also - only 1 hour.

Any help appreciated.
