Got him this morning, 8 week old french bulldog, cute little fella, i didnt know so much poop could come out of a puppy! Im sure ill be asking for loads of advice lads!

get yourself some pet insurance as it can be handy, i dont know much about the breed, do they have any common illnesses?

also get him trained once he has his last jabs done and that will help to socialise him with other dogs
 
Main illnesses that the breed is susceptible too is heart conditions and eye infections!!! Insurance IMO is a must for them! Beautiful dogs with fantastic temper and friendliness!

They can grow to phenomenal size, but being so placid kids can hang out of them all day long and ya won't have to worry!

cheers lads, he came with insurance from the breeders for a month so ill get some new cover sorted for that in the next few weeks. Is there any "best" pet insurance to go for? We are aware of the possible health conditions with these little lads, but hopefully we dont have any major issues with him.

I bought her the dog she can pay for the food! he wont be eating into the Subaru fund, thats for sure!
 
He looks gorgeous. The wife works for Allianz Pet Insurance and they are very good but can be quite pricey depending on the breed and associated health problems - try them on 1890 48 48 48.

There is also Blue insurance and 123 but don't think their benefits are as good as Allianz !

get him on the royal canine as soon as you can you need to gradually bring it in so feed him say a third royal canine and 2 thirds his current food then next week 2 thirds and third week go full royal canine puppy..leave off on the insurance til hes abt 18 months he will be grand til then.. it can be very dear and it has an excess of 75 euro (as far as im aware).. as a standard visit is only 40-60 i wudnt personally bother wit insurance til 2 years minimum.. best of luck with him keep him well socialised or he will get narky very quickly. if your not goin 2 stud him and if theres any kids around id spay him at 6 months ..fantastic dog :thumbsup:

Last one of those i saw when i was in new york last year.
The woman that owned it was pushing it around in a buggy of all things! poor dog was so over fed and spoiled it wasn't fit to walk too far.
 
so little fella isn't too good, vet thinks he might have heart murmur, so he got an xray today, needs ultrasound and also appointment with heart specialist. Hopefully its only a puppy thing and he will grow out of it.

Never got around to getting insurance yet as the breeder says they had insurance on him for month but turns out that is only valid if the dog is in UK. so now left with no insurance and a dog which could be considered a pre-existing condition(which would probably be un-insurable) and medical bills that could cost close to a grand so, to say im not happy is an understatement. :angry1:

Do you think im right in asking the breeder to pay for these costs since they were the ones that told us we had insurance, meaning we didn't need to get it until the other one was close to expiry in 2 weeks? Breeder says that if it is determined that he has a heart condition, she will give us a full refund, i just hope she is being honest about it.

Hopefully he is grand, but will cost a few quid to determine this! Oh the stress!
 
That's terrible Lad, sorry to hear it. A UK policy might not cover the pup here and vice versa ! Try to contact the UK Kennel Club and see if they can offer any advice ??.

As regards taking him back to the breeder, I'm sure you've got attached to the little fella and that would be the last thing you want to do.

Maybe get the insurance company details from the breeder and get as much (breeder) details as you can and try talk to the insurance company yourself .
 
All is grand now, went to heart specialist and they said he is fine and that murmur will heal as he gets older, breeder will pay for medical costs so far, so happy days :653:

Now to stop him chewing the skirting boards!
 
If your planning on breeding him I'd neuter him as as possible...my mate just had his done, sounds cruel but they are mad little fcukers..riding everything and fighting with everydog, only way to control them
