UPDATED..! Even More Motor Scams....!

Middle Lane Hogs
Hi Folks,

Its amazing the way these scams are getting more common these days. It starts off that my sister&boyfriend bought a 02 red Avensis for €6000 from a car dealer up in Maynooth (Is it ok for me to name the garage in the interest of stopping anyone else getting into problems with this guy?). Everything was fine till the dealer called a few days later and said the car was due for its NCT the next day and to drop it up to him and he would put it through. So the boyfriend went up and left the car with him and he gave him a 00 BMW car for the day just to get to work. Long story short they never saw the Avensis again. They kept calling back to his garage and his house and calling him all over the weekend there but cant get in contact with him. So eventually they went to the guards there today. The guards in Maynooth laughed at them. They than went to Lexlip station and the Sergent there said he had done this to numereous people already and that nothing could be done about it...? WTF :ponder:! The sergent also said that the car dealer had a spare key of the BMW and would most likely be calling around for it sometime when your not expecting it (Middle of the night) and take it back.

So the Beemer is now hid away in a different county and there is a few other things afoot to sort the dealer. But did you ever hear the likes of it..... I would really like to name and shame the garage but I dont want any trouble for doing this on a live public forum. So be warned & BEWARE lads & lasses

Cheers

Paddy

Re: Even More Motor Scams....!

A car dealer? With a garage?

And the cops just laughed? This makes no sense, either he's sold them the car or he hasn't - If he has then he must give it to them, if he hasn't then its theft plain & simple, can't understand the cops attitude here?

Re: Even More Motor Scams....!

Well if the car is in ur sisters/boyfriends name then isnt that classed as stealing in which case the guards have to ask. Personally i think its can of petrol in the middle of the night job.

Re: Even More Motor Scams....!

They had the car only 2 days so you would be incliened to believe the tax book was in the post you know, than he wanted it back for NCT, apparently...! The Sergent said it was a civil matter
and would have to be dealt with in the civil courts or something of that nature.

Yeah this is an actual garage in Maynooth and is advertised in autotrader and carzone, oh and Im told the avensis is still advertised on carzone as for sale...!

Cheers

Re: Even More Motor Scams....!

If they dont have the log book then surely they have a receipt for the money they paid??

Re: Even More Motor Scams....!

Crap, why do the cop's nearly always say "thats a civil matter". Jesus if that was the US the cops would have kicked in he's door and bear maced him. :shoot: :shoot:

Re: Even More Motor Scams....!

Whereabouts in Leixlip is that? All of the pictures of his cars in stock seem to be taken in different locations?

Re: Even More Motor Scams....!

i'll ring in work tomorrow and see if he's still selling it again
scumbag  :shoot:

Re: Even More Motor Scams....!

Send a mate up to test drive it and take it back,
Let the salesman take your sister to court, and see how he gets on,
Also, At least he wasn't lying about the NCT,  :wall:
Hope they get sorted!

Re: Even More Motor Scams....!

cowboy.com what a wa*ker i would let him away with that hope it all works out in the end

Re: Even More Motor Scams....!

Fook me, that is unreal . . . . . .
I would be finding away of getting the avensis back.

Re: Even More Motor Scams....!

Did they pay cash or check. If they paid check they could cancel it.

You should go to the papers about him and to the consumers rights.

Re: Even More Motor Scams....!

Just get someone else to veiw the car, take it for test drive, and lead them straight to a dark country road, like dunsink, and have a little meeting of the minds, nice and pleasant!of course
End of!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Even More Motor Scams....!

Actually this can seems kind of "wild wild west" way - but as guys say... Just make sure you have some purchase proof, like receipt, sale agreement or so... just send someone the seller doesn't know, if the care is still for sale... let the guy ask for the car and if available for sale again let him ask for a test ride... then simply let him go to the place previously agreed with you, where you should wait with few guys or the best with Gardai... but to be honest this lack of interest on station is... hmm... ridiculous to be delicate... I'd say it's kind of scandal.

Anyway good luck, be patient and clever - if the garage guy think he's smart, try to outsmart him :)
