Volvo Flexifuel

Hopefully someone might be in the know on this. One of the lads I work with has a 2008 Volvo V50 1.8 F. He has been filling up lately with Maxol Bio Ethanol, and been seeing savage increases in MPG and slight power gains. The problem is, he's been told under the table by a Volvo dealer that he should stick to unleaded 95 as the bio ethanol, even in the F series has been known to cause bad starting, wear on seals etc.
He would like to keep using the bio ethanol as its cheaper, goes for longer and gives a smoother drive, but not if its gonna affect the car long term. Anyone any knowledge on this? I know if ya put bio ethanol into a standard car it eats through seals in no time, and causes untold wear

Cheers

it should be in his warranty book to say what the car runs on but it could be a problem when the warranty runs out.

The volvo system is a ford setup the same as focus flexi fuel and I have not seen any ill effects of using either fuel

if it is a flexifuel car it should run fine on the e85 , there should be a increase in power but there should be a drop in fuel economy since the e85 burns quicker you generally use about 20% over normal unleaded. There shouldnt be any extra wear on the car. Manual should tell what percentage of ethanol the car can run on
