Any of you that have bought or are considering buying F1 tyres check out this link .

Checked mine today & the rears are the good ones 'Made in Germany' but the fronts are the crappy 'Made in Thailand' versions ! The fronts are only on the car 6 weeks & I thought the car was a but more prone to understeer in the wet but I put that down to the tyres not being scrubbed in .

I think a visit to the tyre depot is in order !

Hello Jonny,

I have 070's, they are a very grippy tyre in the dry. Be careful in the wet, let them heat up a bit before you go mad with them

Cheers,

Michael

Is that a part worn GY F1 ? If so I'm interested in one as a spare . My car came with a wheelbarrow spare ( spacesaver  ) & I'm currently carrying one of my track wheels fitted with a cut slick as a spare . I'm not too far away from you ( Newtownbutler ) .

but when you have 7 roundabouts between home and work .................lol

Guess you live in the Craigavon/Portadown area ? :D I'll be going that way on Sunday if you are around as I'm racing in Bishopscourt .

Today I rang Goodyear UK & asked them what the story was . I described the markings on my front tyres & they told me that they were illegal ! They advised me to go back to the place that fitted them to get them exchanged & if they refused I should contact trading standards . They have had a lot of calls about this so there are a lot of these tyres around .

So I called into the place where I bought the tyres & they had never heard of such a thing . As far as they knew as long as is had the 'E' number in the circle it was okay to use the tyres . I had did my homework & the number in the circle is only the country the tyre is made for . They didn't know about the long number beside the circle which is the actual number that indicates it is suitable for use in this country . My tyres have the E13 in the circle but no long number .

They were still being stubborn so they brought me into their tyre store to show me that all their tyres had that E number . That backfired as all the tyres we looked at also had the long number as well . :D All that is except another set of the Goodyears identical to the ones on my car . They reluctantly accepted that I might know what I was talking about . I had told them about ringing GY UK & gave them the number . He then called somebody who turned out to be his GY supplier in Belfast . The GY supplier then rang GY UK & called us back . I was instructed to take a pic of the E marking on my tyre & e-mail it to the tech department of GY UK to prove it was the wrong tyre . They would then send me to my nearest GY agent to get them replaced .

The place I bought the tyres are not a GY agent & I think that's why they were reluctant to change the tyres . I guess they were fearful of not getting reimbursed by GY .

I was told that the ROI uses slightly different tyre markings than the UK so I'm not sure if this info helps everybody . Here are the numbers for Goodyear tech departments if you want to check for yourselves .
UK - 01902 453097
Ireland - 00353 16238500

I'll let you know how I get on with GY UK .
