wireless broadband help!!!!

any lads have an idea???
my laptop wont connect to the net in the house!!!!
my wifes laptop works fine in the same room but mine is searching and never finds anything....working fine 3 days ago and i didnt do anything to change it....
now to use net,i have to sit in the hall and put the yellow wire from the router into the back of the laptop!!!
its eircom broadband it that makes any difference
any ideas???
thought i'd ask here than speak to someone in eircom who trys to guide me through in steps!!!

Does your laptop have a removeable wireless network card in it or is it built in??? if its a removeable card it could be loose, take out and pop back in, might do the trick, I wouldnt say its the server (eircom) coz your wifes one is working. Just make sure the wifi setting on your laptop is on. get your wifes laptop and your laptop side by side and go into my computer and internet connection settings and make sure everything is the same.

this happened to my brothers laptop twice and he phoned eircom about it and they told him that they were having problems with the wireless broadband in certain areas but they said our area wasnt affected, he had to setup the internet connection settings again and it worked fine then that might be worth a try.

did you try going into check my broadband connection, it should be up on your main screen on the laptop its a eircom logo, and it checks to see is there a problem with your connection.
 
on the off chance , have u a wirless switch( turn wireless connection on/off ) on side or front of laptop,

jus checkin as i have one on mine :dontknow:
 
Markobucko it's a fairly standard prob with wirless routers , networks , etc.....

I take it your Window's XP / Vista or similar...... anyway, Go To "Start" , Click on the "Connect To" (differen't versions of window's will have a different name,
if you can find the short cut to your connections ICON go in to "control panel" it's in there)

Once your in "Network Connections" go to "Show all connections" and then to "Wirless Network Connection"

Right Click on the icon for wirless network connection and "disable" leave it for 10 seconds , right click on it again
and enable.........basicaly you just turned your wirless modem on and off.

This should reset your prob.

If it dosen't work , Right click on the "My Computer" Icon on your desktop, Click On Properties,Click On Hardware Tab,
Click on Device Manager.....................if there is a fault with your wirless Modem it will show up here with a yellow caution
symbol !!

turn off the router for about 30 seconds, when you turn it back on wait for the dsl light to stay on and then try to connect
