DIY Direct drive sim wheel

Anyone into sim racing / sim drifting?

We have had a Logitech G29 basic enough setup for the last few years with a home made rig.

Just finished building this direct drive wheel, from a hoverboard wheel motor. Should be about 15nm
It uses an open source software to control the force feedback and worked nicely once I had everything together!

Wiring needs a tidy up but wanted to get proof it worked before doing anything fancy

On the lookout for a proper sim cockpit before I commit to buying a brand new one, but not much budget choice on used markets at all.
Same with pedals, but I have a good price on a set of Simagic P500 which have a load cell brake so that will probably be my choice.

Deadly.

I designed my own and got all extrusion cut to order from a crowd in France, pretty easy tbh. I bought a load of connectors and brackets from China and mashed it all together.

Doesnt get much use lately I'm afraid, gut they are great fun.

Thats class
Yeah im tempted to foot the extra cost for an aluminium extrusion setup because itll last and I can always change it around if needed

Have my eye on a Playseat Evolution. I play a lot of F1 2025 and using a controller just isn't the same.

GG Machines and IRL Motorsport are both Irish companies doing sim rigs.

seen them alright but rigs are very expensive. Playseat Evolution seems to be good too.

Im pricing up the aluminium extrusions myself and just building it same as SMITHZER did. More work and planning but a lot cheaper.

TrakRacer and GtOmega have sales going atm on their rigs too and arent a terrible price

Just bought a rig from GT Omega, prices couldnt be beat tbh. I did up a very similar custom rig from Aluxprofile and it was over 100 euro more, and that was with an integrated monitor stand vs the free standing one here.

I've tried to play WRC on PS5 with a controller its impossible.
I think the rig needs a lot of practice to get proper good at, I've only ever played on controller, tough, but I do get around it lol
I have to use old school buttons tho, ✖️ for accelerator, 🔲 for brakes, ⭕ for handbrake etc lol R2 & L2 gears then 🤣
