Hi lads,
My cousin is looking for a new car, has about 5k to spend and wants an A4.
Anybody on here have any feedback on these cars? Or know of a clean one for sale?

Had a 02 one and ran it to dublin 5-6 days a wk for 5 years and never gave me a days trouble. It was serviced when needed
without fail. It was a 1.9 engine 130bhp. I think the 04/ 05 models with the new shape front in them have a 2L engine and they are softer engine wise.
My sister in law had to replace the turbo a few months ago on hers. But she wouldnt be to good at looking after a yoke.
Again in my opinion once ya service a car and give it everything it needs you will be grand.
Thats my experience with them and yes I wouldnt have any problems buying one again,

the diesels are a great once looked after properly, clutch kits can be expensive when time comes to change......
service history etc is always a plus and buy an original car, not one with 18"s on it and thats slammed to the floor, most of there undersides have a hard life with pot holes and speedbumps so get a good look underneath......

Cheers lads, lots of 'felt spec ones around alright! Gone steer clear of them!! He is still on the lookout for one, half decent one in arklow but it's a bit far these evening to travel to see a car in the dark!!

My buddy ran a 1.9lt as a taxi for years. Good mpg. Bad for rear leg room if you or your passengers are tall. His used to wear ball joints like crazy(probably from all the city driving). I hear the timing belt requires the whole front end off the car so lots of labour charges for that.

Nice one, rear passenger legroom isn't a problem. I'll keep the timing belt thing in mind.

taking the front of the car doesnt really take that long . I think from memory 20 minutes would have the front stripped. but it goes hand in hand when doing a timing belt in an audi. yea ball joints were a slight problem with 18s. but once they were reolaced with genuine ones and not cheapy one of ebay or done deal .

Cheers, are the ball joints expensive to replace? Easy to notice when they are on the way out?

20 minutes to strip the front off,you must be superman or something. It s at least a 4 hour job start to finish.Other wise clutch is a worry as already mentioned.A full service history is a must. Also beware of imports, they are not always what they seem.

Im not saying it takes 20 minutes to complete the job . All i said was it takes take the front off . Once you have the front bumper of you have 4 screws on the top of the front panel , 2 each side . Then 8 screws on the bottom of the front panel , 4 each side . A couple of rad pipes and one electrical plug on the passenger side . Then the Whole front panel lifts out , lights and all. Job done in about 20 min and no cups of tea.....
And no im not superman . lol .

@ eliroche
yea the control arms are fairly noticeable when gone they knock like fook .
once you have good service history with it job will be a good one
