Blew the turbo for the second time in 3 years today. Pain in the bloody hole and pocket. Has anyone else had this problem? New turbo only don 70k in 3 years before it let go yesterday.

Ciaran in asd knows them inside out might be worth a call might have a used one or might be able to shine a light on why it's blowing

Its supposedly the Crankcase breather filter, in a lot of the 07 diesels they are a loo roll type, basically they soak up the oil and without cleaning or replacement they get clogged and starve the turbo of oil until it dies. Most newer versions changed to the Vortex type filter that do not require cleaning but most of the lads over on BMWdrivers.net would change these out at service time anyway. Image of old type & new type below. If you have the new type and its happening anyway ... your f%@k3d

Old type left, new type right

Ya i always ask it to be changed after the last time. it's full BMW service history but was 2 wks over due it's service date this time. Anyhow time to change it once I get it back next wk.

Not a clue what oil. All servicing done at a main dealer. Think it was around 7500kms between last service and now but not 100% sure. Will have to check my receipts.

Sorry no i meant in general between services.

Where you going 15000-20000km?

What was oil usage during this time and how often being checked?

Would always keep an eye on the oil before any long journey as its the wife's car. Only checked it last Tuesday for the Nct and it was grand. Never had to top up with oil between services. I'm beginning to wonder did they change the turbo at all the last time.
