Just read a story there on the local advertiser paper about a uk jounalist who drove a standard production model vw passat blue motion from england to the south of france and back on a single tank of fuel (77.25litres). averaged 89.83mpg :shock2: :shock2:

Broke world record for the longest distance traveled on a single fill, fairly amazing I think.

Its a 1.6 tdi 105ps

I bet this kind of traveling are not comfortable or convenient. Windows always closed, no heating or A/C, no radio, no lights, always think about your leg on accel, no hard braking, always shifting gears on right rpm's and the list goes on and on.
Isn't cars suppose to get us happy and smiling on the road? :] I understand that it is for world record, but in general... In my country journalists are competing in this every year on different makes :] Lots of suggestions how to use as little fuel as possible :-]
Some of them are helpful, some of them just kills the fun of driving ;]

My brother just bought a new Polo with one of these 1.6tdi units in it and to be fair it is easily the most economical car i have ever driven , it goes on the smell of diesel and it actually has a bit of go in it , , not to sure about the mileage claimed in that report tho ?

Poor Clarkson struggled to do the length of the UK in an Audi I think it was.

london to glasgow and back i think andy ,

they done the trip from france to blackpool , used a polo , a jag and a leggy , all oil burners 2

If you want economy i never seen the likes of Renaults Clio 1.5 dci. 65mpg easy.If you want mpg try drafting a big rig if you can stand the pace, use half throttle at most and definately lay off the launch control/antilag. ::insert speed icon here:: :icon_headbang:

i have a new shape passat sport with the 174bhp 2.0 tdi engine an she does between 62 an 67 mile to the gallon
pure mizer of a car on juice :afro:

get into the subaru here an be lucky to get 200 km's out of a full tank :new_puppy_dog_eyes:

Not really the point of the exercise-the fact is-they can do it if it came to it-and we've all been in that situation with the yellow light on for 50miles

this is the first time I've seen it happen ere but it always makes me laugh when someone posts similar to the original topic on any forum ya always get the half dozen "my car is the exact opposite" and "it's this hard on petrol"

mine are both pigs but i just put it in it and drive or don't drive em for a while

WHY WHY WHY ????

I'm so sick of hearing from people I know with their great fuel consumption from their Passat diesels.

I bet they cant drive around today in the snow :multijump:
