18 inch alloys advice?

can anyone help i was thinking of getting 235/40/18, alloys for my impreza, will it be able to handle that width? should i buy white tenzo gt alloys or gold alloys?
what size alloys and tyre width do ye have :ponder:

Im also in the market for a set of 18'' ROTA's  (**hint hint anyone got a set hint hint** ;)
dont a little research and found 18's will go well with 235/35/18 with a 35mm drop on a classic impreza!

Ive 17 inch on my impreza sti on standard suspension.
215/45 but i think the alloys would allow a 225 or even a 235. Maybe next time.
Ive a HKS Cat back exhaust and even though the car isn't lowered, if ive 1 or 2 people in the back on a bompy road the exhaust can clip the ground.
Only happened twice but the back box is huge.
Just an area for you to look into if your gonna lower it

Lads it's not as simple as that.

I have 235/40/18 on my TypeR , lowered 30mm front and back.

You WILL NEED to roll the arches for perfect fit !!

if there's people in the back on a bumpy road it
will rub every time

I reckon keep to a 225 maybe even 215 tyre .

Oh and to be honest after driving my TypeR and then been a passenger in Adam's TypeR
don't lower it....... you gain nothing and the ride isn't very comfortable ..... it wasn't to bad at the start but over the
last year it certanily feels very hard.

Obviously it looks cool when lowered but to be honest with the 18's it look's the part anyway

Niall.

hi matt, i suppose you will be busy during christmas working on your car, anyway is there a good sound off the hks cat back, have you
a decat pipe on it aswell, I was thinking of getting a hks hi power cat back system for mine, as the system under it is standard :)

Hi Mark
Yeah ive a few things to get done over xmas if i find time.
My HKS cat back is a silent Hi power that came on the car from Japan.
It has a lovely Deep Subaru rumble at low revs but once you get above 4000 on full boost its an animal.
Has an almost Ferarri/racing car rasp off it. Very addictive.
Stereo isn't much use when you have the foot down and my exhaust wouldn't be one of the noisier ones.
I dont have a decat yet as i still have to do the NCT

I have 225/45/17's on my car not lowered and they rub. (It's a 1995 classic wagon).

To be honest I wouldn't bother going for 18's on a classic. 17" wheels are plenty big.

215/40/17's are the right size for it. Can be lowered and no need for arch modification.

Not going to lower mine much, have 25mm Whiteline springs for it. Suffer from the above too with exhaust ground clearance. Have a Blitz Nur-Spec R under it, which has quite a large bore pipe running to the front.

hi yogi if you fitted coilovers with hard/soft adjustment it wouldnt rub the tyres but it would be very bumpy on back roads.
even though my brothers friend has a bmw 325 coupe with 245/35/18 and its lowered down with coilovers very near them, his tyres dont rub and he carrys passengers in it all the time

sh*t Niall ya just thrown me off the idea completly now!really want those 18' GRA's on mine!Iv got 17'' SuperT's and the car is'nt lowered, and i dont think much of them at all!there looks like there's loads of room for 18's!
Maybe ill lower her first and see what it looks like then!
Any idea's for suspention?Full kit..?just springs??

@marksscooby...sorry man,iv hi-jacked your thread but im after the same info myself

thats alright dave r we all need help at times your best option is fit coilovers that have adjustable ride height and hard/soft adjustment,
as i posted above about bmw 325, you wont have any trouble with tyres wearing etc, coilovers are very comfortable on main roads, but very bumpy on back roads.
coilovers have the best lowering ever

Your problem is the width of them on the back. They catch on the inner lip of the arch when it compresses. With 18's you'd want to be running 205's or something.

Also, I had to cut some of the foam trim at the end of the skirts up front to keep my lock. 18's will be even worse.

18's are grand on a newage, but for a classic I think 17's are a tidier fit.

Had 18's on my last classic and i said never again car was tram lining all over the place when you put the boot down
I got it tracked and it was still the same.

What year Version is your car! 18 fit some but not all! 01 bug eyes on are good for 8 x 18's and they look the best on them! JohnM an tell you what size tyre he has with them on his car!

Richie in pro-parts does both 7.5 x 18 and 8 x 18 for the sti! On a wrx i'd only but 7.5 x 18 but Richi will tell you all the fitment sizes and what tyre to fit!
