1984 20v AE86, Huge Spec (Px/swap for Sti type R)

You should talk to John Newman Motors in Ashbourne, I know he really has a BIG soft spot for these. He used to rally one and he sold it years ago for a rally prepped RS2000 MK3 Escort, he said it was his worst decision ever. No harm in trying.

I dont know, would feel very awkward and forward to ring up and say "do you want to buy my car":new_puppy_dog_eyes:. But if anyone knows him maybe they can point him this direction? No harm in him looking anyway, if he does have a soft spot for them.

Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh! Stop putting pics up.... It's killing me! I f**king love this car! :icon_pray:

My girlfriend just did the Prodrift course in Mondello and is hell bent on buying a twincam! Obviously something cheaper and less clean as it would kill me to see that damaged.... but Christ I'd be a happy lad if that car of yours was in my garage!

I think I want/need another Sunday car!!!! If I win the lotto this weekend I'll take it off you immediately!!

You have a type R dont you...................................... :multijump: :1poke:

have you considered a B4? if your talking comfort its a much nicer pace to be..few mods and their just as quick as an sti( no where near a type r but) around the track I passed plenty of sti's round mondello at jap fest last 2 years..wont take the abuse an impreza will but the sensible option much more low key..BTW..Ive seen Pauls White sti and its spot on barely been used

Well by comfort I mean relative comfort lol. A type R will be alot more everydayish than the AE86. But at the same time I want something that gives me a real thrill when driving (as the AE86 really does) and that can also be pretty fun/quick on track. Pauls STI is very nice but I'm gonna try and hold out a bit more before strongly considering a p/x deal as I havent really advertised the car much yet.

Is it the one in your avator! If so its exactly what I'm looking for. But anyway if your only looking for a cash deal and not to do a deal with my AE86 then I cant really do anything at the moment? Theres plenty of nice type R's about (although no black ones of yet:() thats not the problem, its trying to sell my own car to get the money to buy them that is. And dont want to put it on carzone/autotrader untill after my college exams in about a month (in final year so they're very important and I dont want to be answering the phone every second or travelling around the country).

Ha you never know, a spin in this I'd imagine could convert alot of ppl I'd say. I've done a 1.06 on the national track in Mondello and consistently 1.07s (with passengers) in only two outings, I'd be interested to see what kind of times Type-R's are getting to be honest, considering their twice the power. I think thats testiment to how good this actually handles considering it would be alot slower on the straights I'd imagine. I really am a die-hard AE86 man, and nothing I've ever been in or driven has converted me, although admitedly I've still yet to be in a STI Type R.

No modern car offers the same feel and response in my opinion, as a 900kg 9k revving AE86!!! :icon_pray: I imagine I'll love a type R, but I know for certain I will get another AE86 in the future when money permits, but maybe I'm just crazy! :cuckoo:

Just dont rev the type R to 9K when you get it!
Ha I know! To be honest I never rev the AE86 to 9k anyway. Usually just 8 or 8.5k. Thats one thing I'll miss though, a bulletproof toyota engine. Nearly going from one extreme to the other!!

So your engine would take a turbo at 1.2 bar would it?
Was only a freindly joke mate! :new_puppy_dog_eyes: Obviously my N/A engine wouldnt take 1.2 bar boost as its not built for it, as similarly a Sti engine wouldnt take revving so high. I was just saying that while driving my car on track etc at those high revs the thought of engine failure would never cross my mind, whereas I'd imagine when driving a type R it would be at the back of any owners mind? But the 4AGZE 1.6 Supercharged Toyota engine could take that kind of boost as it has high comp pistons etc if you want a similar comparisson. I dont think anyone could argue that a 4AGE engine would be more reliable driven to its limits than an STI engine driven to its limits, both standard of course? But it was only a throwaway comment I made anyway. Didnt mean to offend or insult anyone! :icon_redface:

You didn't I'm sure. He just made a point to which you agree with to an extent.

no offence intended just making a point..your talking about bullet proof toyota engines..how many gt4's have required rebuilds and they run a lot less power than an sti...your engine is hardly standard a standard cam would sh*t itself at 8000+ rpm..Toyota havent made an exciting engine in years apart from the vvt-i engine from the celica which at 100bhp per litre hardly sets the world alight(lexus aside and the 5.0 litre v8 in the isf)
In fact toyota bought a 23% stake in Subaru with the intentions of using their engines and drivetrains in the next Celica.

Misunderstanding I feel. I said I'd miss a bulletproof toyota engine, as in mine (or in general 4AGE's) and not every Toyota engine. I'm sure most ppl on here have seen twincams being bounced off the limiter (very near 8k) for long periods of time while doing "rings" etc. in real or on youtube:icon_cry:. And considering at that stage the engine probably has 200k+ miles on it, I think its fair to say they can withstand a very large amount of abuse. Considering alone the amount of Sti engines on here which have been rebuilt compared to the amount of 4AGE's rebuilt over on AE86irl.com for example I think my statement stands up. And to be fair a twincam generally has a much harder life (considering being 20+ yrs old, and the amount of eijits who own them) than STIs. I'm obviously not saying its a better engine, I'm just saying its able to take alot more "hard" driving than an STI engine. But that is just a general fact in relation to N/A vs Forced Induction engines.

But anyway this is getting sidetracked. I'm just saying that I'll miss the reliability of a 4AGE thats all. Reliability is a negative of STI engines IMO as it is with most turbo cars, but I'm willing to take that negative for the many positives that they have (incresed power and subaru rumble :subaru:).
