Sunday Drivers
well lads, seen a 2.0 sport 4wd for sale there id be interested in her but the auto box is puttin me off.. never drove a auto in the snow, what are they like?

where i live theres alot of hills and stuff and ya really need to be on the limit from the bottom to make it up and alot of the time ya need the clutch.. like say your pushing on to get up a hill and u start to understeer.. on the auto ur not gona be able to clutch for a bitta over steer..

so will the handbrake sort this problem without locking the 4 wheels, will she lock the back and still keep pulling at front seen as its a open diff

no open diff on the sport so i wouldnt go for an auto

handbrake will reck diff

ah nice one thanks for ur help, didnt know the autos where like that.. so will she will lock all 4 wheels when handbrake is pulled

most likely in the snow it will lock all 4 wheels as the diff will just want to stand still which wont help to avoid anything and in the event that the front wheels get grip it will want to break the diff, its a no win situation

yea i get ya.. same thing happend to my 93 legacy centre diff got distroyed and locked solid. it left the power being equaly sent 50/50 and when turning tight it wound clunk around dragging wheels as there was no give.. but left it unreal traction in snow

whats the best setting on the dccd in the snow

Full lock or just before full lock.
I was usually using the first orange setting but its all in around the same i guess

So are we going to have probs using the girlfriends foz in the snow thats a 2.0 non turbo automatic or is it a different diff

there not all in an around the same paul, full lock is full lock were all 4 wheels will move at the same rate, all other setting are open diff with different amounts of torque to the rear wheels.
you wont have any problems with the forester if you dont us the hand brake but it will be hander to get some grip as your not in controll of the clutch

i prob used wrong words i know the lock is very different but in the snow i found the orange settings to have a very similar effect is what i meant by its prob about the same
cheers for that i cant see her using the handbrake really  and ill be using the leggy most of the time
i had to teach her to use the dccd and to correct the back end last year as she took the ra for a couple of weeks when the snow was real bad in sligo and left me her corrola in portlaoise i thought it was safer for her and the baby to have the awd but i was nervous while it was gone
