2005 Subaru Impreza 1.6XI or TS

So, I am checking all the possible youtube videos that I can find, and on some I have seen that guy when he put key into ignition, the dashboard ran the test, all the clocks went all the way up and then back down, are all Imprezas doing this, or was it some custom mod? I do really like it and I want it!:D

sti only feature that im afraid.

Right, so it needs to be done by either installing STi dashboard into standard car, or my mod. I guess it is possible, right?

Legacys from 08 on had it aswell. Cant be that hard to get it done . But in all honesty after you watch it the first few times you wont even notice it and thatd the truth

think its a system that's built into the clocks themselves might be as easy as swapping for blob or hawk sti clocks , always come up for sale on scoobynet

I had two 1.6 impreza, a 02 and a 05 one wit the full wrx kit on them and they were great reliable cars but as tommy said they were bit hard on fuel and underpowered but lovely cars to drive all the same. If ur not doin much drivin the 1.6 would be grand but the 2.0 Wud have more power but dearer tax so good luck in your deccission.

I am actually driving quite a lot, I believe I am doing about 20k miles a year. As Tommy said, the tax for 2.0 will be back soon on whatever I save on petrol. I am from Dublin, and most driving I do to work and back + weekends. For this City driving, I believe the 2.0 will be better as its less consuming petrol.

Thanks for the offer of 1.6, I still have time, I need to get my 1 year no claim bonus, that will happen in January, and then in February, I will have to pass NCT, so the price of the car I am gonna be selling is higher:)

Another question, if I wanted to buy one from retailer/dealer, how often does it happen here in Ireland, that they change the mileage? Would I be able to get 2.0 Hawkeye(any year really) in stock with less than 80k miles for less than 5000e?

Hawkeye sport imprezas would be 2006 /2007 so should be in around the kind of money your talking ,

clocking the mileage does happen but get the car properly checked by a mechanic who'd know what to look for if you dont ,

good dealers like Carroll and Roche in clondalkin would be a good garage to watch , usually turn a few r sports/rx models in a year

As always, thanks Tommy for great answer:)

I hope its ok me having plenty of questions, here goes another one:

If I want to get my ECU tweaked, do I have to report this to Insurance company? Also would they find out on NCT and possibly fail me on that?

bit pointless tweaking the ecu as there would be very little to gain witbout major work like more aggressive cams porting and polishing and breathing mods . if you were seeking to up the power superchargers are available but are serious money for wrx power levels . over 10 k would is what I was looking at to do my old r sport . just made sense to buy the sti at that stage

Wow, I see... unfortunately STI is out of my league at this moment, and just simply cannot afford it, that was the reason, that I would be looking into improving the car once in a while for smaller amount of money. Saving up 10k+ and paying crazy insurance on top of that aint the way I can afford right now.

So what kind of improvements would be reasonable? If I take the fact that stock 2.0l Impreza has roughly 160hp, are there any smaller, not as expensive tweaks that could have be done, so over time I could reach 180 or even 200hp?

plenty of lads on impreza sport.net have attempted to do it but none seem go follow through as the money that needs to get them there would be the same as trading up go a wrx . the sports are not slow in standard form once ya drive them on .

So, any performance related mods are not profitable in price vs performance gain point of view, right?

I Had a 2004 1.6 TS wagon for 3 Years , bought it with 10k miles sold with 80k. Never gave an ounce problem.
Didn`t feel it under powered as it was My first subaru and Had a 1.0 Yaris before. If You consider it an extremely reliable , AWD car You`ll be happy with it but it isn`t a rally breed performance car.
My experience is different re fuel consumption. The worst I Had in heavy traffic with arcon on is 28 MPG. Driving from Hungary with a roof box ( ~ 150 Km/h average ) gave Me ~ 30 MPG but My wife used to drive it and get 35-36 MPG.
I loved this car until I bought a turbo wagon :) but still think it is a brilliant car
