If you can bear the gratingly annoying American voice over there are some good shots of the new sti saloon from 2.37 onwards. I think it actually looks better than I was expecting but the front is looking dated. Tommi Mackinen is a legend and takes some seriously big risks in this new for 2011 non roll bar equipped sti saloon :049:

I hate that pri*k, he does all the voice overs on Motorz Tv , and it wrecks my head the way he pronounces the names of some cars .
Id love to punch him straight into the chops

Had a look at this vid again. At 2.46 you can clearly see the roll cage so this is not a standard Impreza STI. Its also more than likely running on slicks and with Tommi Mackinen on board the 7.55 time is not representative of what the new STI saloon will actually be like. If you look at the time of the current hatchback saloon around the bedford autodrome it is nothing special and is beaten by a lot of cars which have never done sub 8 second Nordschleiffe laps. This is pure marketing hype which is fun to watch but the real test will be unmodified sti's on real roads in real conditions.

According to EVO Magazine ....."The car deviates slightly from standard, with the the larger turbocharger and six-pot brake calipers from the Impreza R205 edition and aluminium bonnet from the STI Spec C, plus the usual safety necessities for track work".

In other words, it was cynically modified to achieve the 7.55 lap time and is not representative of what a standard saloon STI is capable of. I also read elsewhere that it was fitted with special 4 point harness lightweight seats and had under-body aero mods which allowed it to achieve almost 160 mph along the straights despite the huge drag created by the rear wing. The whole thing is designed to create some pub talk but it's a bit insulting to real Scooby fans and petrol heads who can easily tell a marketing stunt from the real thing.

Having said all that I too can see traces of EVO VI in the rear three quarters and and think it's better looking that the hatchback STI . Anyway its all academic as it still wont be sold here as Subaru only sells diesels in Ireland now. So much for preserving the marques iconic performance status!
