2012 nissan qashqai 1.6 dci, fuel filter

Hi all, i want to change the diesel filter in this car does anyone know can the filter be primed by turning the pump off and on a few times { not starting the engine} or do I have to fill the filter. Thanks.

Is there a bubble type pump on the fuel line under the bonnet?
If so pump that 20-30 times and it should start.

The 1.6 dCi is the R9M engine and it’s different from the 1.5 dCi. Nissan lists the fuel system air bleeding/degassing as automatic, so I wouldn’t pre-fill the new filter with diesel. Fit the new filter clean and dry, connect everything up properly and let the system prime/bleed as designed.
