22B Some Car!

I dont like fat assed 'rides' but that has to be my favourite subaru of all time! tis fair sexual!! :worship: :worship:

Im lucky enough to get to drive #199 every now and then-belongs to a mate of mine down here. He rarely drives it but when he does it doesnt get much sympathy-and iirc the 22Bs have the "closed deck" engine. Some animal of a car-ill get some pics of it and the legacy together and stick them up.

some piece of machinery all right fast becomming a collectors item to be locked away in plastic bags in sheds of the filthy rich beside there other collection of exotic and rare supercars that hardly see the light of day, pity really they were built to be driven

Lovely Motors alright

On the engine topic- I'd mine mapped, maintained at the highest standard, never doughnutted and it still spun the bearings.
The life of standard sti bearings is 50,000 mls

Cheers
John

Lads i'm on about the 22B engine being based on the sti 3 engine, with the open deck block, and so well know for being a soft engine for piston 3 at about 40,000 miles, nothing to do with subaru engines being soft, evo engines blow aswell lads

it's just known that the 22b engine is soft, which is the only let down for the car

Hi yes you are correct the 22b was based on STi 3 components such as heads, turbo etc etc..

But the block was an ej22 closed deck with piston oil squirters which was most closely matched to the american market SOHC 2.2 legacy turbo 90-92.

Really can't agree with 50k bit...........

A lot of lads said it to me at Wales Rally GB (where it happened) The SIDC had a display an I was talking to lots of them who all agreed that 50 was the life of them
How may people do you know that this haappened to and what was their milage?
I know any that arrive in James with the same problem (which is a lot) have the mileage in or arround it.
Bit too common to be a random case.
Cheers
John

Never said its random case......

But there are lot of ownership factors to come into it.....

For example does a STi classic arrive in with 80k km and you say your timing belt is due soon and by the way your big end bearings are on the way out cos your speedo reads near 80k.........

oh yeah its time to get your engine out on next service schedule save yourself the crankshaft cost and your timing belt is due the same time is not something i'm gonna hear myself saying.........

as you can't..............

Im trying to find the link.....
[/quote] did you find the link? Would the poster be Blu Scoob?

#51 (above) appears to have grown a new set of stoppers and shoes since it changed hands. Sure looks well though :worship:

Re the soft engine.. most of the higher milage 22B's appear to have had a rebuild (as have a few low milage examples) I just hope mine isn't going to go the same way. I had her serviced before the VIP day at the begining of the month and then changed the oil and filter again afterwards. That has to be vital maintenance for anyone who does 'track' any car.
