98 impreza sti replica

Sunday Drivers
I was wondering if somebody could help me with some info on a impreza i purchased recently 1998 sti replica non turbo the engine is a ej204dw1ke now ive been told they didn't exist in 1998 . The engine looks like one that is in a 01 bugeye Exact same actually .there is other letters and numbers gc8f . Its a exact replica of a sti semingly cane from the factory this way any info on the engine would be a help incase i need anything for it .

Not sure about the engine, but I'm sure replicas never came out of the factory... it simply does not make sense. Why would factory want to fake their original flagship product...

GC8F are the first letters of VIN - meaning its a classic (9/1998-9/1999)

Thanks for the reply . Im not bothered about the replica thing doesnt really matter . Im more concerned about the engine , i think i need a camshaft sensor it comes up when its plugged in . But its not affecting the cars performance which i must say is excellent ive had wrx and sti , but the extra you pay on insurance on them its not really worth it . Because you get so little chance to use the power and the non turbo is much lighter on fuel

If its showing camshaft position sensor faulty check the timing is set correct first, if timing is out a tooth it can bring on that fault

You left me speechless with that comment, but each to his own I suppose?

I would advise you to take the car to one of subaru specialists to really find out what you have under the bonnet. davelegacy is one of them.

Codders what comment left you speechless . Everthing i said is the truth ,believe it or not insurance €310 comprehensive .35 miles to a gallon and still great craic to drive .

Nothing against you mate, you're just the first I've heard saying that NA Subaru is generally better than STI or WRX and you had owned both of them before.

No i said they are easier to run and still a bit of craic .its just so expensive in this country to run a wrx . And i think its a cheaper alternative . But they seemed to be frowned upon which i think is unfair , ther are lots of people driving n/a imprezas. But i find some people on these forums run them down ? .

Couldn't stomach paying the tax for something with that power level. I'd rather have a turbo diesel car if was paying for cc's but each to their own.

Can I ask how many km's you get on town driving and how many on motorway runs?

Its 25mpg city driving and 35 motorway that average of 30 sorry. And i dont drive easy .ah listen i know the difference between the wrx and n/a impreza offcourse the wrx is better im only pullin the piss i tought more might join in and have a good bit of banter. I only have the non turbo cause i use it to go to work and couldnt run the sti i had and this is better mpg wise which is important money very tight at the moment , as soon as ii can ill be back in a sti again

Jesus I'm not far off those figures on a 2.5 turbo lol .380-400km (22mpg) city driving and 500-550km (30mpg) on motorways .LOL

I had a 2.0 rx impreza a few years ago and fuel wise was doing around mid 30mpg, nice car but lacking topend power I have a turbo classic now average fuel is 23mpg, same tax, , about 100 more on insurance, the power is worth the extra third on fuel.

Lad161 could you tell me where you got insurance for €400 on a wrx . I was quoted €900 when i had mine and im not a spring chicken

Im paying 440 on my car which is a 2.0turbo sport est according to the log book, its a classic wagon nonimport. Im with axa and im 32 wife is named on the car, It's not used for work (company jeep) and ive a classic car policy(manta $200)

Lad161 did you ever put up pics of the manta im a big fan of them .also my impreza had wrx on the book and it was jap , and i always put comp ins on me cars i suppose thats wat made it so dear.the impreza i have now suits me for the time being cash flow is f!!!!n poor at the moment recession finally caught up to me
