Middle Lane Hogs
Hello guys.
Im new to the forum, my names john and im from carlow.
I got my b4 on sunday
A few things i noticed.

Their is play in the drivers side tierod. The steering wobbles when i hit the brakes at speed.
Do they normally sound whiney? from the gearbox?
When i drop off the clutch from standstill i hear a little thump at the rear of the back. Sames goess for when i downshift on motorway.. any ideas?
Under the transfer box it looks like i can see oil driplets. nothing major just tiny drips of oil. But i dont notice any oil stains on the ground.
A newer engine was fitted a week ago. And it smells like oil or grease burning.
Also do these cars get hot, like do they run hotter than a golf gti for example. temp gauge is perfect, fan comes on as expected.
Does anyone know who skims discs in carlow?
Is their anyway of hitting peak powers at lower revs? I dont like screwing the engine... Sorry im coming from a GTI background and japs are new to me

cheers
john

the whine could be from the power steering pump that happened ours when we had it. shouldnt wobble when you brakes, the discs might need reskimming or something not to sure about that one of the lads on here with b4s will help you out
the engine temp from high performance cars are very hot but once its not over heating your fine just make sure there coolant in the rad, the intercooler should do the rest.
peak power in b4 assuming you have the twin turbo model comes in about 6-7k rpm between 5-6 i think it is is the turbos switching over which b4 owners call the valley of death. once the car is warmed up proper and with the right petrol maxol e5 then you shouldnt have any problems pushing it a bit just try not to red line it.
hope this is some help for you man and enjoy the b4 they are cracking cars :subaru:

Well mate, welcome along! the shudder is almost definatly from warped brake discs. I changed bushings, tie rods etc and made no difference. Finally got the discs skimmed & problem solved. Howards in Glasnevin skimmed mine for € 50. Great job and turned them around same day n all

Hi Guys.

Really appriciate the feed back :)
Yea i have the b4 RSK twin turbo one. :p :smokin: num num
Is their much between the normal b4 and the RSK one?
Excellent to know about the heat.. Phew.. All i could see was €€€€ bein spent on a warped head..
Excellent to know about the dics... nice 1
Any ideas on the little thump noise in the rear when i move off quick? Its like i feel a little looseness in the rear wheels. maybe its just me LOL hahhaahha :hammerhead:
And the oil droplets under the transferbox.

Cheers Guys
John

Do they normally sound whiney? from the gearbox? It shouldn't, I'd put fresh motul Gear 300 or Redline Shockproof 75W90 in to see if it cures it, if not, you could be looking at a centre diff problem down the road

When i drop off the clutch from standstill i hear a little thump at the rear of the back. Sames goess for when i downshift on motorway.. any ideas? Rear diff bushings probably, genuine subaru replacement or polyurethane upgrade

Under the transfer box it looks like i can see oil driplets. nothing major just tiny drips of oil. But i dont notice any oil stains on the ground. Wipe dry and check regularly to see if they re-appear, could just be leftover's from the extensive work carried out (and not cleaned up) or it could have been leaking for a long time and run low on oil, thus causing the whining problem above

A newer engine was fitted a week ago. And it smells like oil or grease burning. Hard to know but may be rocker cover gaskets (relatively cheap fix if they are).. Was the engine new or second hand? Keep an eye on the levels to see if you're burning anything

Also do these cars get hot, like do they run hotter than a golf gti for example. temp gauge is perfect, fan comes on as expected. Yes, they get quite hot. Water temp gauge on the clocks should read half way or just slightly under

Does anyone know who skims discs in carlow? I don't, sorry

Is their anyway of hitting peak powers at lower revs? I dont like screwing the engine... Sorry im coming from a GTI background and japs are new to me.. Peak power will be between 5-6,500rpm, changeover at 4,200rpm... No need to rev past this as its a waste of revs

Get some pics up, we like pics here so we do  .. Link them from photobucket

How ya gettin on lad
from Castledermot myself so only out the road from ye!!!

Give one of the lads in Vquip on castledermot a buzz they will know someone local that will skim the discs for ya if not do it themselves.....

Hi Lads.

Thanks for all the welcomes :)
The garage down here said their is a little play in the tierod. Im gona get a set... The wobble comes from braking, and when the brakes get warm or hot it wobbles like ****.
Ill give that oil a shot for the GB, and the smell of burned oil or lube is dissaperaing, its not as noticable. :)
Good advice lads. Nice 1.
I got my self a sh*t box > Nick named snot box for a run around :) :p

Heres some pics of both. They arent great but ill be taking more! :)
