a/f reading.

hi lads, i have an apexi turbo timer which also has battery voltage,o2 reading, and a/f reading. now for as long as i've had the wrx the a/f reading was allways flashing in between 14.2 and 14.8 , over the last three days now i have been noticeing that when i start to accelarate the reading drops down below 14.0 and the more i accelarate the lower the reading gets. is this something anyone has had happen to them,

cheers james.

Im guessing it may be reading the voltage your alternator is giving out as the normal output of an alternator is 14.4 volts

Didnt know that.
Handy little feature then if its givin indication you may have a sensor problem

dont see how it could be the MAF,that the t/timer is reading...unless he has it connected to the ecu..other wise how is the t/timer picking up the air/fuel ratio with out being connected to ecu....could be wrong ere but that dont make sense.... :ponder:

ye mine is at mid 14s and more or less stays there when reading the battery voltage... a/f readings fluctuate alot more than that,

cheers lads, to be honest i did think it was air to fuel ratio too, the device does give a seperate reading for battery voltage, it also gives a reading for o2 seperate, i have an apexi ecu added a while back so it cant be attached to that either :dunno: , have a feeling its the maf too, but could be wrong..

cheers, james.

Look' it's air fuel ratio. It's wires into the loom just before the ECU, and picks up the signal from the lambda sensor, fact

Are you sure Johnny99

ok so if the maf is on the way out , am i doing damage to the car by driving it , and is this a part i can get from a dealer. are they expensive to buy and fit, so many questions ,

cheers, james.

Ah, yea,

MAF is dealer only, and getting a second hand one is a waste.

John

right then. if i didnt have this a/f gauge in the car then please tell me how else i would know that the maf was on its way out, cause it doesnt seem to have any other tell tale signs,
cheers , james..

Think hitting fuel cut is one of the signs of a MAF problem.
Yet there is probably many more signs and also other reasons aswell as a MAF problem for hitting fuel cut.
So you need some expert advice i think or get it plugged into Diagnostic computer

Hey James dont drive the car hard till you figure it out.  When they fail they generally underread, the ecu doesn't put as much fuel in and can give you an overly lean mix that should det it's tits off on load. Considering your car has been mapped and leaned already that could be very dangerous.  You might have had very poor idle etc for a day ??

The 99-00 MAF is around 130 euro but the others are alot more. Think Ver 1-2 is around €350ish IIRC.

ok I'm gonna jump onboard... mine is goin from 14.2 sometimes to 13. odd when foot is down.. when I let off it goes up to 20 which is the max and green light flashes.. Mine is an Apexi MAF... any ideas. .. car has never gone better
