A few sensible mods??? - Scooby Pics Added!!

Iazazel

Sunday Drivers
Well guys!
A few mates told me about this forum and I have to say im very glad I joined! (Great bunch on here with plenty of banter and sound advice!)

Anyway, I've recently got my hands on an 05 STI type UK and was hoping for some advice on a few mods! Well, I was kinda hoping to get an idea of where I should start!

The scooby has the Prodrive upgrade - about 305 Bhp and has a Prodrive suspension and Brembo clutch, oh yea and an aftermarket SS exhaust back section.

So, basically what I had in mind was a front splitter, straight through exhaust and a new set of wheels to start! I was just wondering if anyone thinks if it would be worth upgrading parts like the fuel pump, intercooler hoses, air filter ect? I am open to any suggestions, esp on what parts would be the best to get? (budget is about 1-2K ... to start! hehe!)

I was also wondering if it was worth changing or tweeking the suspension as I know some lads dont like the prodrive set up? It seems quite planted and firm but I really havnt driven many other scoobys so I really cant tell!

Anyway, looking forward to any or all suggestions!

Thaknks in advance ..... :beerbang:

Mark.

Re: A few sensible mods??? :ponder2:

Am sure there will be plenty of advise on this one.

Is it a prodrive backbox think there might be sports cats aswell but honestly havent a clue

What colour is it.Have a new fondness for white cars.Carbon splitter would be nice if it was white.Would go for black one if car is blue

Stick up a few pics and gis a look.

Think a lot here would be happy with what you have allready but everyone has to change little bits now and again.

Re: A few sensible mods??? :ponder2:

You have the prodrive proformance pack What people call the PPP.

The wheels I have on mine are 8 x 18" speedline corse turini and I wouldn't be able to recommend them enough. I've had them on all my new age STi's three in all.

The suspension you have is as good as it gets but you can improve the cars handling in other ways like fitting upgraded drop links, anti roll bars and bushins so on. An anti lift Kit is a must to.

A good set of wheels and the above mods will see the 2K gone.

If you go for a full system you will need to remap the car to keep it safe and see the benifits of the power gain put you will have to refit the original everytime you have an NCT.

The PPP comes with a high flow sports cat that passes NCT no prodlem.

Best of luck with the plans

i thinks thats only on the 06 on cars which are 2.5

Re: A few sensible mods??? :ponder2:

To try give you an idea of the tuning route.. with for talks say a Standard STI or WRX the mods always go in a certain sequence.
First of all good service.
Exhaust system
Decat Down pipe/ high flow cat...... Carefull with this as needs mapping for best and safest results
Walbro Fuel Pump
Uprated plugs Pfr7b etc etc
Uprated panel filter.

Now what you need to do, because your car is PPP, I establish what you have already.. no point in buying needless.
Someone like Eric will know more than most on Prodrive specs, so he should know, but aswell as a high flow cat, and an ecu flash, i think your car may have an uprated fuel pump aswell..
Because your car has the PPP, there is probably not much more you can do without massive money... a REMAP will take the guts of 1k away if its first time Ecutek... other than that your looking at fitting a bigger turbo to get more than what a map alone will give you

Re: A few sensible mods??? :ponder2:

i have the ppp on my wrx and it brought it from 225 to 265bhp and yes it comes with prodrive backbox so yes no probs with the nct!

Re: A few sensible mods??? :ponder2:

PPP=

• Recalibrated engine
management system
• High capacity fuel pump
• High flow catalyst
• Stainless steel sports
exhaust silencers
• Only available as a
complete package -
components cannot be
bought separately
• Certificate of fitment to
enhance resale values
• To fully benefit from the
extra torque levels
available, fitment of 18”
wheels & tyres are
recommended

There is a differance between the PPP for the wrx and the STi. They are two different systems but yes both will pass NTC no problem.

Re: A few sensible mods??? :ponder2:

Cheers for the quick reply lads!
Carlo, the car is silver/grey, I think a black splitter would look good! Its not a prodrive exhaust but it sounds awesome tho! (will get a few pics up at the weekend when shes clean!! :) )

Eric, those speedlines are sweet, I was thinkin of changin to 18s, (A multispoke in gunmetal or charcoal colour - would look good against silver!) but was not sure if they would affect the performance at all? (Im on 45s and dont really want to go any lower profile - not on the roads around here anyway!! hehe!) Also, will 18s swap straight on? any lock/rubbing problems?

With regards to the suspension, what are the benefits of the anti lift kit? I dont know much about them? are they expensive? I was also wondering about a strut brace? if theres any need?
One more thing, If I do go for a straight through (I'll wait till after d nxt NCT in the summer!) will I deff need a remap? and If it needs one would I be as well off upgrading a few other bits (air filter and fuel pump) before I get it?

Sorry for all the questions but I know I'll get some sound advice on here!

Thanks again lads,
Mark.

Re: A few sensible mods??? :ponder2:

theres a thread to 18inch rotas we put on the sti think they are gunmetal. maybe something like the colour you have in mind https://isdc.ie/forum/threads/23742/ i think they would look well on a silver car with a carbon front lip.
as for a straight through exhaust a remap isnt a must but it is highly recommended as the car will run lean without the remap. as for suspensions id look into front and back anti-role bars. you will notice a nice bit of difference in handling.
i dont no if its part of your plan but if you can afford a good set of road/track pads for the brembos like ferodo ds2500 or carbon lorraine will give a nice aggressive bite
if you are looking to get a remap an uprated fuel pump is recommended and you may aswell replace the filter.
hope this advice helps and best of luck with the modding

Thanks for all the advice lads!, Chris, I cant seem to open that link, can you post up a pic at all?
Anyone know a good place for decent priced wheels or refurbished alloys??
Cheers!

Re: A few sensible mods??? :ponder2:

I had the gunmetal Speedlines on my last prodrive STi. They would really suit your car. Has a few pics. They will go straight on with no rubbing or lock issues. My tyres are 225 40R18 and their spot on. I've had them on my 03 STi to and agan no issues.
