Advantages of 3 port boost solenoid?

As above lads, might be doing a bit of upgrading on the car soon. What are the advantages of having one of these put on prior to mapping?

Cheers

Dan

Mainly better and more stable boost pressure, with no peaks and stuff..

Edit: and brings on boost faster!

AFAIK the boost can be mapped more accurately and there is more control of it :ponder: possibly more too it than that though.

The long and short of it is that it will allow better boost control so less likely to suffer from boost spikes.

This is something I have been thinking/wondering about myself.

Where is the 3rd port connected to when replacing a 2 port solenoid?

the 3rd port just vents to atmosphere, you could plumb it back into the intake but no need.

First time I ever heard about it venting to atmosphere. :ponder2:

As far as I know It should be connected separately to the intake, wastegate actuator and compressor, whereas in 2-port solenoid wastegate actuator and turbo compressor are linked by T-connector as on the pic below.

As I said you could plumb it into intake but it doesn't effect how it functions if you dont. I have fitted and mapped a good few cars with a 3 port and never connect up 3rd port to intake and there is no problems.
