Is there much involved in getting air con installed in a car? is it possible to retrofit it??

Just wondering because I used to have it in my last car and miss not having it now.

it would be a nightmare to fit between fiiting pipes ,pump ,radiator ,wiring and worsed thing would be removing the dash to get at the heater box and fit aircon to the box.not worth the hassle easier to change the car

A/C????
do you live in Ireland?

in all my years in the motor trade ive never seen it being done.it would be a massive job to retro-fit A/C to any car.
i couldnt imagine the price to do it :shock2:

get a body shop to put a roof scoop in for you,it would cost nothing compared to getting A/C put in

Ive a/c in my ra but ive never used it in the entire time ive had the car as the lads have said a roof hatch does a brilliant job

i actually use nearly only in autumn/winter/rainy season for dehumidifying- hate fogged windows so works well for me for our type of weather:)...

Great fly and wasp catcher too

well gents, thanks for the opinions. Sounds like a non runner....!

I hear what ye're saying but that super cool air is very refreshing  and it's great for getting rid of the foggy windows as per Milo on damp days.

I'll take your advice, Tommy, for the time being and have a think about a roof hatch or sunroof.

Thanks again!

bit of work in it... you could do a simple wiring on switch if you wanted.. you have an high presure switch and low pressure switch and 12v to magnetic clutch and a stat if you wanted or just put it on a switch... i am a frig/aircon engineer if you have any questions giv me a shout...

Thanks Padraic, that sounds interesting. I wouldn't mind if it was a bit basic, I could manage that. I'll be in touch.

if you called into a breakers you would get all the bits for feck all and the pressure swithes and all that are in the pipe work... tape all the ends of the pipes to stop dirt or moisture geting in... it would be an intersting project..

have to give ye all an update.. adrian fitted a/c to his car and all working perfect and thats something else for a man that doesnt do anything with the motor trade/refridgeration trade and done it all himself.. so if anyone wants aircon installed in there car contact adrian..!
good man yourself... credit to ya for having the patience and thanks a million for your gift.. karma your way..

Thanks Dec. There were times when I thought I'd give up but I got there anyway.

Have to say, many many thanks to Padraic. Without his help, guidance and advice, I'd not have been able to do it. He not alone helped me source the parts, but he helped me get it set up and working, and I'm very grateful for that.

I'm delighted with it. The air coming through the vent is ice cold which is great for these humid days. I might throw up a few pictures of what was involved when I get a chance.
