Alternator

What kind of reading should you be getting across an alternator with a multi-meter lads. Think my one may be on way out. Cheers lads

You could just check across your battery terminals. When you start the car, the voltage should up to 14V. If not the altenator could not be charging it properly.

If the altenator is going your lights will start to pulsate (constantly dim and brighten).

Why do you think it's on its way out?

Car as being sitting up for last 2 or 3 months. Started it up 3 or 4 times in between. Seemed to start up sound each time. Took it for a drive at weekend and now hand-brake light is staying on constantly( which i think is a warning for your alternator starting to go) :dontknow:

Could be your handbrake is not releasing fully. After 2 to 3 months of sitting idle, bits will seize a bit.
In future park it on the flat with handbrake off if leaving it for a while.

My handbrake light is on at roughly half brightness constantly since i bought the car in Sep 2007.
When you pull the handbrake up it lights up at full brightness.
Not had any alternator issues myself so not sure what it is :dontknow:

i thought that when the handbrake light is comin on its either down on brake fluid or pads are low :dontknow:

Funny you should say that Legman, got one of the lads to bleed brakes for me and it was after that it started to stay on. He definitely filled resevoir back up and pads are fine. I've a feeling one of the caliper pistons is seized so i wonder is that affecting fliud pressure which in-turn is giving warning light. Is the fluid pressure measured in an impreza?
