well lads,

after a bit if time thinking of it ive come up with puting another engine in.. the one thats in it has gone to the dogs
its very rattle tap bang and now the tappets are going so sounds bad.

thing is im finding it hard to find an engine that will go in my 98 legacy rs?? its not the same as the rsk i think and some of the older one dont look the same either?? i need help!! 1 i need to know what engine is in mine and 2 is there anyone that has a engine for sale? not going to go down the trade route as the price is high so ill be the one removing and fitting the engine (could do with help there too :xmas_cheers:) once i know what i need ill either be puting ads in the wanted parts etc..

anyway any info or whatever will be helpful..

thanks Dan

Any engine from a leggy will go in man! Just put your heads on it :)

Infact you can put an Imp WRX or STi one in with minimal effort,

So yeah the world is your oister, EJ20R, 20H, 206, 208 and of those leggy ones are a direct fit

But if I were you, rebuild! I'd never buy a second hand engine

Well gooise,

I've heard the legacy bottom ends are forged like the sti's but the leggy's run different compression ratios? So if I fitted a ej25 cosworth forged engine which I've been offered won't work, well will but could have problems running x amount of boost. Even if I got the c/r lowered would the ej25 fit in happy as pie? Will I have to change the heads over? All this over a rattle.. Still running on primary as nutbeam sent over the wrong box.. Will have that sorted soon. And what a ej20r out of? Is it a type-r?

Is yours a manual or and auto! The gen 2's have a EJ20R for the manuals and a EJ20H for the autos!

Don't count on the subaru "forged" internals being propper forged, and I heard on another forum, from a guy who was actually on the production line that the story that some Leggys have the "forged" internals is infact totally incorrect.

You can use any Legacy engine as they run the same C/R I think

And about your other comment about the use of a Imp short motor, I know a guy that put a STi short block in his BD5 and it was fine, can give you his addy if you want to pick his brains

I see, I hear what your saying with putting another leggy engine in and the c/r the same but it was the imp cosworth forged engine I was worrie about, only done 4000k and built for 450hp. Can I get a tick enough head gasket r do I have to put 2 in.. I've a manual so I'll have the ej20r engine in hear,

And I think I'll go for the rebuilt cosworth engine, the gooise right I thinks..
