Another NCT Saga for your guys! It got so bad it was nearly funny!

Ok Bit of back ground for you, my NCT was out since feb 2008 so i said I had to make an effort to get it sorted. And so booked it in for the 5th of November.

First test - 5/11/09 - Full test; Cost -50euro
Put the std exhaust back on and sent it in to see what they came back with!
RESULT - Car failed on emissions and number plates - Had to arrange a re-test straight away!

Second Test - 9/11/09 - Un-booked retest; Cost 28euro
Note I didnt have the caar booked in for this one. I went to local garage to get the emissions tested, we found that when we pulled off a vaccume hose of the boost controller the readings came back inline with the regulations. So garage made a phonecall to NCT centre and 5minutes later we were in getting a re-test. 10 minutes later I was walking out with my cert even though I had not changed the number plates!

The cert was only for 3 and a half months as it was coming t the end of a term or some Bull like that. I called the head office in Dublin asking if they could give me the 2year cert but they couldnt so I had to get another full test done. So I booked it in again on the 30/11/09.

Third test -30/11/09 - Full test for 2 year NCT; Cost 50euro;
Expecting the car to pass seen that it was only retested 2 weeks prior.
RESULT - Car failed on frayed steering rack gaitor!

Spoke with thetechnicians and he asked who inspected it the first time, I pointed the other technician out, he said that guy is always making mistakes and that if I got the gaitors repaired just bring it back for an inspection and it would be free as it shold have been seen the first time.

Fourth Test - 2/12/09 - Retest Free;
Car passed test and i got my 2 year NCT.

Needless to say I was fit to be tied! :angry1: :angry1

please include parts to repair the problems they highlighted cost 100 euro.

What you think of that guys!

Imagine if I was unemployed and couldnt pay for that how the hell would you have the car on the road. It is a awful scam! It truely is another way to rob you

Tester couldnt even start my car

Told him to leave door open when putting on ramp as alarm would go off.Luckly i brought second fob with me.

Just had to change little bulbs at front.Passed back home and changed exhaust.Have to do again in feb i think

Money making racket.

:smokin:

yeah a pure money racket :angry1:put my car in for test a few weeks ago. looked over ta car myself put new coilovers in,number plates and bulbs but didnt get time ta fix steering gaitor.went for ta test and before he even brought it in to look he told me that it had failed, cause he couldnt see ta vin number :cuckoo: showed it to him where it was and he finished ta test. which failed on ta gaitor which i new would happen and was told that a side slip test had to be redone to check the tracking. rebooked ta car and fixed ta gaitor and returned to the test centre. different fella this time. he didnt even check to see that the gaitor was fixed just took my word for it. did the side slip test which takes all of 2 seconds and charged me 28euro :angry1:.

ahh its all a money racket
when i brought my yoke in i forgot to disable the blackjax on the cliford :doh:
have to admit though it was funny looking at your man locked in the car with tha alarm screaming :dance: :lol:

Think ill be immobilising the car on purpose in the middle of the test when i book it haha

I got my one there a few weeks ago no probs with the car just had to fit a few bulbs.
The nct is there for a reason it got rid of alot of death traps off the ie a festa i had passed on just afew things.

know how you feel, I fitted D2 Coilovers to my civic 2 weeks before my nct was due and it failed because of the rear shocks, brought it back to the garage where i had them fitted, they checked it out and said the shocks were grand, booked a retest with no changes made and it passed!

Also failed my first legacy because they left a digit out of the vin number on their system so had to go home and come back up with the log book before they'd give me my cert

They are a bunch of knobheads up in the Nct centre. I recently had my Focus RS up there for test and it failed on..........wait for it........... Push button start!!!!!!!!!! Tried to explain that this was standard on the car from the factory but they wouldnt listen :( Had to get onto NCT headquarters and make a complaint and then had to go and get Ford Ireland to ring them and confirm that the Focus RS had in fact got a push button start as standard and that it wasnt a safety issue...

Is it any wonder why the NCT is being taken over in Jan by the same company who do the tests in Spain....

If a car is off the road for lets say 20 months, is there a form that you can get signed (similar to road tax) to allow a new nct cert to start from the date of the test and run for 2yrs or are they always backdated like what happened to Paddy
