Sunday Drivers
I went to look at this car today i was wondering does anybody know the car??

http://www.carzone.ie/search/Subaru/Impreza/STi/201022198285389/advert?channel=CARS

In pics it looks clean but there is a few scuff marks on front and back bumper both little lips on the front bumper are loose......

Load of engine work done by Sti tuning.

He drove the absolute nut sack out of it on the test drive, which didnt impress me one bit and he kept on turning on the anti-lag too which i also didnt like.
Anyway an info anybody has would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

for 11 grand you could get yourself a nice ra for half the price i know where there is a nice red 05 wrx with 56k on the clock i think for 7grand in longford.then imagine what you could do with it for 4 grand.

But there's "slight" difference between wrx and wrx sti. And also between - no matter how much we like them - classics and new age sti - which is newer, probably in better condition, has a bit bette suspension and so on.
Of course classics are classics - they're also lighter on weight. But, being real, they're just getting older and more tired of life - unless you have lots of money to spend on them to keep them fresh and reliable.

Just my 5 cents on how to spend 11 tousands.

At the end of the day it's always buyers decision - what he's looking for, what he can afford.

Every subaru has been driven hard at some statage. I'm sure what ever one one end up with won't be a sunday drivers car either. The anti lag would also be a selling point to some lads on this site and to get the best of it with has to ve driven hard. Is that not the whole point of it. Ring Dave in STi tuning me might remeber the work carried out on this car and ask him what he thinks.

Other wise buy a standard one as there are loads of them out there. :subaru:

Ya the sti part is sorta important to me, and I'm completly in love with the blob eyes....

I have him down to 10k, but the engine was rebuilt which is a sorta good thing in my opinion but the turbo and running gear are all still original. So with the anti-lag been switched on so often I reckon the turbo can't be in great condition and if he dogs it like he was today the gearbox and diffs wouldn't be exactly dependable either and with 10k spent I'd be finding it hard to replace parts like that. Or are these things I shouldn't be worried about on a 77k miles jdm impreza??

The more info I was hoping for was from sti tuning lads maybe they know the car from workin on it and know what sort of condition these other parts are in...

Thanks for the advice so far every little helps me make an educated decision in the end.

Car looks very familiar, I remember the prodrive sticker on the clocks. but can't remember who oned it :ponder2:

*edit*

When i seen the blue wheels nuts i remembered the car. I can't think of the lads name that owns it but AFAIK he doesn't drive the stones out of it everyday at all. He's actually a really sound lad that took pride in that car.

Ya he told me the wheel nut story and having no key for the locknuts. Dead sound guy alrite, maybe he just was tryin to impress me by showing me what the car could do and by god it can move!! Has a real nice stance too. Any body have any opinion on the condition of the running gear and turbo with that sorta milage on a jdm one??

6 speed boxes in the new age are normally bullet proof as for the turbo, if he used the anti lag a lot if could well have caused damage, I would budget for a new one.

It looks pretty nice to me.

If you want an sti, I wouldn't even consider starting with the WRX.
The 03 on JDM sti's are unreal.

If there's no whinning or funny noises out of the turbo, then its probably fine and not done any damage yet.
With full exhaust including headers an induction kit and a decent map, it could be well over the 330bhp mark. Could be as much as 360.

For 10k, if its had a full rebuild, and no funny noises from gearbox/turbo or diffs, its defo worth a punt! IMO

anti lag setup on our road cars is only a mild setup compared to rally cars so might not affdect turbo badly imo

I know this car its a Colins subaru, he live in tyrrelstown:) Had a good test drive about 2 months ago, Hes subaru was on autotrader about month ago for 16k , now i see much better price .......but why???

Because the market has gone to crap.

I recon the owner was just showing you what the car was capable of when he took you for a drive. Nice car for the money.

yes nice car and after rebuild very very fast trust me. Just 1 thing, knocking on the rear, owner said rear shocks needs to be changed. After few minuts drive with Colin i was rly scary and i would say worth to buy

Knocking is probably the shock top mounts, mines the same at the min, nothing major imo,
I was told by Andy F that when using Anti lag dont leave it on too long as this will raise temps very high :naughty:
he said switch it on for a little bit and then switch it off let it cool down  it was basic mild anti-lag when done by Andy, i since have had it UPPed  by JGM to be a little more aggressive, i switch it on now and again from 1st to 4th then off again, i'd switch it on for no more than than a couple of corners at a time,
except for the track day last year when i left it on for one lap.

Touch wood i've had no probs and never will

newage shocks do suffer from grease issues causing knocking, there is a thread on scoobynet i think on how to strip and re grease them and that should fix the problem. Its cheaper than getting new or second hand ones. But that might not be the problem :dontknow:
