My cousin is after moving back home from Germany after working there for a few years. When he lived here he had a license (2nd provisional) but it expired in 2006. Now that he's back here and he heard about the new licensing rules, he asked would he have to start over again i.e. with the 6 months learners permit etc.

I hadn't a clue when he asked today. Anyone here got an idea if he starts over or if he can go ahead and book a driving test and get a new provisional.

No he shouldnt have 2 start again i had a bike license a few years ago and let it run out about 3 years ago and got another 1 last summer no bother.

a neighbour of mine forgot to renew his full licence, when he went to get a new one they wouldnt give him a new one they said he would have to do the driver theory test again and end up with a learner permit

looks like mixed answers Mark  I cant see our beloved govt missing out on a chance to squeeze a few extra pennies out of us though.

His licence reverts back to a 991 first licence after a five year laps in not renewing,,, he should be all right and get a 993 ..3rd licence

As above i woulda thought?

he`s within the five year limit of it expiring so he can renew it to get his 3rd provisional but he`ll have to apply for a driving test to get it.......... or if he has a full german driving licence he can just transfer that over to here

No German license. A lot more strict and expensive to get your license there. And he lived next door to were he worked.

Cheers for the replies lads. I'll let him know and he can go and get sorted tomorrow.
