I find myself doing this more and more lately-gets all the anger out in a safe-ish(well maybe not that safe) enviroment. I'm on the yellow one. All 3 are yamaha raptor 700's. 0-60 3secs,top speed approx 100mph depending on sprocket
fair play man quads are great crack a few of us used to spend many a sunday out on the bog or else set them up for tar and hire kart tracks now that is mental the grip is unbelieveable all finished now but was savage crack if your on face book search quad drifting ireland loads of videos there of off road and track
@wagondec-why'd you stop? Quads getting very very cheap now. Raptor 700 to be had for 2.5k and its hard to see them ever being worth less than 2k so if not using just flog and recoup most if not all money.
@mynameismud-I prefer the live axle-much more raw than LSD equipped machines and cheaper to maintain. Funny how we all went completely braindead when the camera came out. We spend about 4 hours on them and those were the only times anyone went off.
around where we live the bord na mona lads closed the bogs to all off roaders and then lads lost interest in the kart tracks as it was very hard on the body especially if ya came off onto tar
Theyre trying to stop us too-parking timber harvesters and digging drains around barriers but theyll do well to close off 200 odd miles of it! There'll be a couple of offs every day no matter what I suppose,my right leg is bad today after it its like being sick from beer-we forget so easily
Went on a quading experience few weeks ago with a few friends , was great crack but after 10 minutes i wanted something sportier than the farm quads we had lol , my brother had a raptor a few years back and it was fairly rapid , great days out !
I gave this a go a few weeks back in the Canada backwoods with some buddies over there. The only difference is we were using real tough heavy duty quads with independant suspension all round. The tyres were only running 6 psi for maximum grip. This made handling on the hardtop very tricky, especially when your hauling ass doing 90 km/h trying to keep up. On the other side the grip in the dirt was amazing. I only wish i had a helmet cam to show you some of the terrain we crossed as i needed both hands on the handlebars to control the beast over rocks and ponds. Seriously you would not believe some of the ravines we descended and climbed out of. If you tried it on foot you would be on all fours climbing out. Most of the 100 km distance we covered were not even used before it was so grown over. I never thought these guys would be so brutal on their 15,000 dollar machines, but they took it all in their stride. There were a few technical problems though. I started out on the green Artic cat which was a 650 cc twin and automatic gearing i believe. Almost immediately it developed a misfire at low revs travelling through the wood trails. It was diagnosed as having a faulty 'stator', whatever that is. I had to be towed back to the start to pick up another fellars quad who had crashed it the day before and tweaked his arm so he could not go on this trip. Back on the road with a little black Suzuki 400 single cylinder with semi automatic gearbox and a solid rear axle. This little beauty was way better to drive on the roads. I loved this one so much more control and lighter also. Quads are legal over there on rural roads with a licence plate and lights required. No indicator or mirrors needed.
The other problems we had on the day were with the Yelow Suzuki that had dirt in the fuel so it kept stalling and the owner had to stop and blow his 4 wheeler before it would cooperate(he got some stick for this ) . My biggest highlight though was when i got led into a deep hole in a pond we had to cross. I was doing so well keeping up until this. I am convinced they led me there on purpose, those baxters . I had to get off and get towed out in waist deep bog water. Plenty pitstops along the way added to the social occasian as well as meeting other 4 wheelers along some paths. If you ever get the chance, try it. I gaurantee you will be smiling through the aches and pains you will feel the day after.
Resting up before setting off. Notice how this guys leg looks funny. He has a false leg and lost it splashing through a mud hole. All he could do was stop and shout at the lads behind 'not to run over his leg'. We had to take a break then we were laughing so hard. He emptied out the water and re attached it so all was good. Yes that is a machete strapped to the quad.
It was a mixture of utter fear and exillaration. Definately not for the faint hearted. Adrenaline was going on big time. Defo one for the your bucket list if you are a petrolhead. Hopefully doing this again at Christmas with 3 ft of snow probably, or maybe the ski doos will have to come out. I will have a helmet cam for next days adventure for sure.
