Anyone owned an Altezza??

Morning guys

Slowly getting more and more bored with my Subaru, and more and more obsessed with wanting a RWD car

Just wondering if anyone has ever ha one? And how they would rate it in comparison to thier scoob now

The one thing I am afraid of is, I find my Legacy too slow, so what if I find an Altezza to be torture? Being 50bhp down on my Legacy

But redeeming qualitys are the Tez is RWD, so less power loss, manual (my B4 is auto) so less loss there again, and also give or take 100kg lighter!

So do you think it would feel the same?

Just looking for some honest experiences and advice on my above predicament! :)

Would go Nissan S body but at 24 insurance is a Brick wall

I had one did a 2.2 turbo conversion sold it on never ran right since i messed with it ha

If you think your legacy is slow then the altezza will be awful , my legacy feels like a rocket ship compared to one ha

There heavy on petrol and try and find a decent one , most of em have been dogged now and the clean ones people dont sell

As for 50 bhp less if your legacy was 250 a good altezza and i mean a good one mapped properly will struggle to make 200hpi seen em make as low as 160hp they are a very high compresion engine and lose power on our sh*t petrol

Trust me going back to na after turbo is a bad move insurance should be no prob on a s body i have friends 21/22 insured on em

Oh wow!! Dashed my dreams there man lol

That was a worry of mine, every joe soap with a heavy foot seems to have had one, to find one that hasn't done rings on the bypass at 2am would be a struggle

Only got one quote on a sil80 and that came back at 3k+

Only other problem is, I want to shop around, look at more than one, try a PS13, S14, S15 maybe but don't want to seem like a test pilot

Wish I had a mate that could let me test drive one to see if I even like it before I think about selling up and buying

i had one, and got mine up to 220bhp running on e85, good crack for a rwd saloon but you need to rev the arse off it to keep it in the usable power band. same mpg give or take as my legacy. it will be hard to find a clean one that hasnt been diffed, but they are bullet proof cars, never had an ounce of bother out of it and mine got some proper abuse! most people usually go from altezza to legacy's not visa versa!

Altezza as RWD is only good for rings. Its a nice all a rounder, but its not a performance horse. Like popsy said, those lose power like crazy. even if it has 170-180hp, then it is very good. i doubt you will find one now for good money, most of them are just driven to sh*t and back.

if you want proper RWD, you need S body or skyline. If you want fun RWD then mx5 is A LOT OF FUN! I have one myself and it out lived skyline in my garage!

Always loved altezzas,
after being at rally of the lakes this year i will never buy one, every altezza in the country was there, safe to say they are the newage twincam :icon_hang:

i have been in plenty of them, drove one of them. can never say i was in a fast altezza, going from a turbo to it will be as you say torture :icon_sad:

also insurance shouldnt be a problem. at xmas i got quoted 1300 on a S15 Spec S (non turbo), im 21 with 2 years NCB! coudnt find a nice one at the time so i bought my scooby, but my next car will deffo be an S chassis no doubt!

Lloyd the difference in insurance between and S and an R is like night and day buddy

I think you'd struggle NOT to get a quote on and S haha

I got quoted 700 or so on one when I rang up and gave to number plate off a wrongly regustered spec R :wall:

You can get a toms 280t altezza which would give your impreza's a run for the money. Only 100 made though so next to impossible to get one, plenty with aftermsrket turbo kits on them but the toms would be more reliable.

Its one car that needs a turbo ,if it did it would be perfect power is their major let down i had mine about a month
and i had a turbo kit got ha

I dont mind mid 20 mpg on the legacy as i get some bit of power but when you get the same in the altezza and a whole lot less power not worth it imo

Maybe I should weld up the centre diff and take out the front shafts :p

DYIN for RWD

Legacy is too safe, can throw it into a corner on WOT and not worry, it's all a bit boring to me! Want some drama

when i sat from 400hp skyline to WRX i was happy not to have drama anymore. I can overtake safely, keep high speed on corners with no "brown knickers" sindrome, suspension, which can do great at performance and still keep a very comfy level.
RWD is still a lot of fun and i will still plan on owning more RWD cars, but on daily driving i prefer boring, no drama 4WD setup.

You old man!!! :lolpoint: :icon_biggrin:

funny enough i might be getting old! :ponder:

i really enjoy what i drive now. Its still fun, but so much comfort and toys in it. Let alone heated seats, which are being used a lot, because i have to be at work by 5:00 in the morning and no matter what time of the year it is - its freezing cold at 4:30 in the morning!

i could not go back to stiff suspension mad car anymore. i got it out of my system i guess. :ponder2:
