B4 legacy info

B4Dar

Sunday Drivers
Iv got myself a legacy B4 last week, but i know very little about them as this is my first subaru. So im just trying to do some research on them at the moment.

Im wondering what sort of performance upgrades work well on them. How much of an effect does the likes of decats, front mounted intercoolers, etc. have.

Im just basically trying to find out is there any basic upgrades worth while doing. So far it has a cat back exhaust system. But if there were any other ways to release the few extra horses ad like to do it.

Would a decat be worth putting on before getting a remap?

What about front mounted intercoolers? Are they any benefit on a basic setup?

no point in front mount with standard turbo's, decats will free up a few ponies too, but will probably fail on NCT then.

Thanks for the info

Where would you recommend for getting the likes of decats, etc. for legacy's. I did a bit of searching on the internet and everywhere I found mainly deals with imprezas. Very few had any mention of lagacy's at all.

decats for legacys are quiet expensive same with front mounts. you might pick up a decat in the used section here man be worth a look

H&S are reasonably priced for decats, a full system will still set you back a pretty penny though. No point in a front mount, will only create lag and unnecessary expense. Think an sti 7/8/9 top mount can be fitted but you'll have to double check.

Best thing you can do without going into big expense is full decat, remove resonator from inside the driver's wing, put in a high performance panel filter, 3 port boost solenoid and an sti 7/8/9 top mount (if they definitely fit). Then get it mapped for the mods and you should see 300+. Mapping options start from €250 with couture's open source mapping program. Then you can go the ecutek licencing route for about €7-750 or aftermarket simtek/sivecs for big bucks.. Depends on budget really and choice of mapper

what is a resonator and what would it look like and how do i remove?what are the benefits of doing this?

It is basically a noise reducer and a restrictor at the same time.. Its in the inner drivers side wing, only 2 bolts i think, one at the bottomand one beside the airbox. Take off the wheel arch liner and its the big black plastic thing.

The benefts of removing are less restriction and cold air take directly from the inner wing into the airbox

ok ill take a look, does it make the car noiser?will i notice any difference in performance??would it fail on nct or anythin like that???have nct newt week!!

a little induction noise alright when it sucks in the air which is cool.. Not muc if any difference in performance asthe car is not mapped to take advantage of the cold air.. Won't fail the nct at all

If fit an STI top mount but you would need a bigger scope its a lot thicker

Ive removed the resinator box, such hassle to take them little plastic screws out omg!!!but all done now and seems fine, can hear a small induction noise bearly doh!!and tiny bit more poke!!i still left on the big plastic intake that sits on top or rad.

Good stuff, the noise you'll hear won't be too intrusive so you can decide whether you like it or not. A high performance air filter will also let some more noise through than a standard filter. And if you want even more noise, then go the induction kit and remap route :icon_biggrin:

yeah might get round to gettin a decent filter as mine hasnt been changed in a few years,i was also thinkin of puttin a cold air feed pipe from bumper to the airbox if that would be much addition i dont know?

Yes, it would be an addition but don't feed it directly into the airbox, just fee it to the general area. As we get a lot of rain here you could end up saturating the filter and then letting water into your engine which would not be good. Either that or only drive it on sunny days
