was sittin here contemplating selling the b4 and maybe buying a 97/98 sti and use the few quid ied make to get a head start on some of my outgoings. we all have our opinions but is there a big differance between the two. i know they drive like to completely differant cars but are they on a par with each other. would i get into an sti and not want to get out of it. ive not driven an sti before so if nothing to compare it with. ive driven other fast cars but the b4 seems to beat them all hands down. i used to think the b4 was on more of a par with the wrx but now i think its closer to the sti......any comments on this and please dont turn this into a pissing contest :1poke:

B4 has a serious weight issue compared to a classic STI-plus the old VOD would get you a bit too but comfort wise Legacy all the way.

its not really that much heavier actually 1480 v 1420..sti will out handle and out perform a b4 but hands down..unless you mod your b4 of course

Need people who have changed over from one to the other and are driving them regular that can give you a proper comparison of what they are like to drive... AndyC might be the man to ask, i'm not aware of anyone else that has changed between the 2... Really depends on what you want from the car though, do you need it to be your daily driver? If its just for weekends, then you probably cant beat a type-r...

If you're driving the car to suit, then personally, i dont think the VOD is noticeable on the B4... The only time you ever notice it is if you change gear back down into it... If you are accelerating hard, then your gear change should be quick enough to stay well out of it... If the VOD is really a big issue for people, there's always the option of the parallel kit... There's one for sale on uklegacy at the moment for £150...

the lads on uklegacy do... rather than spooling one turbo followed by both together, the parallel kit lets both spool together in parallel... Think its just piping and a couple of gaskets... I'll see if i can find the thread with it for sale...

question,,,whats vod?

Nothing for us Impreza owners to worry about :icon_nana:

Very basic discription is - twin turbo legacy, first turbo kicks in at low revs, its drops off max boost just before 2nd turbo kicks in so leaves a slight flat spot.

I think I can help out Here!

Drove an STi Type R as a daily driver for 3 years

I have my B4 now 5 weeks.

TOTALLY DIFFERENT CARS!

If you want snap your neck acceleration and shear stupid sense of speed then go for the type R. As a daily driver you better not be tired as its a handful.

If you want your passengers to feel like they are in a taxi ride to the airport then buy a B4. The added bonus of the B4 is if you press the Go pedal then its no longer a leisurely taxi ride to the airport! You can drive a pregnant women to the hospital in a B4 if you drive sensibly...not a hope in a type R.

I drove Elaine to the hospital when she was in labour in the STi typeRA. Not a bother. Depends on the driver.

i dont want to get rid of the b4, i fookin love it. im just looking at options to gain a git of cash and still have a scooby. i have the car almost a year and have had pretty much trouble free motorin. the only thing thats stoppin me from puttin it up for sale is it needs a front bumper and that the market is focked.

Niall.

I remember something like that Niall.

I had the trip all planned. I had the shortest route planned in my head. It was going to be flat out driving all the way until I hit the first ramp :angry1: just after cambels bridge in cabra. Pic above is almost the exact same.

Then it was ramp after ramp after Ramp. She did lash me out of it for picking that route alright. :new_argue:
