Sunday Drivers
hi all, jst trying get sorted 2day my 01 bugeye, got rear diff from Bren here and unfortunately that wasnt diff that make that noise from back of my car.
man spent 5 hrs hard job to get diff changed but as im said its probably one of bearing to make that noise. so 2moro he has to put my diff back and change bearing.

Question lads is which site you would start first? :ponder: coz we may change only one site but if we wont be lucky again :new_puppy_dog_eyes: :icon_cry:
Any experience? advice will be really appreciate !
Thx jiri :afro:

yeah exactly, I assume if that noise come from back and diff is ok that has to be bearing no? its something else there what can make that noise? :ponder2:

Yea good chance it is a wheel bearing, maybe some of the more senior subaru men
might say different.
jack up the rear of the car and spin each wheel with the handbrake off, see if you can
hear a roughness in either the right or left,

you could also go for a drive and let the rear windows down one at a time
to try and hear which side the noise is coming from

I had a 01 WRX with noise coming from the rear. Had it all checked....gearbox, diff, bearings and nothing found to be wrong. I could still hear the noise when turning hard but after a while.......it went away :dontknow:

Best advice i got at the time from a member on here was to turn up the radio and forget about it

I'll try 2moro everything what you did say. thx a lot. im afraid that spin them wont work. at first this noise starts about 40km/h and if youll raise car up and release pressure of bearings that wont work either :dontknow:
thx jiri

True, but all you can do is try it,
wheel bearing was gone on my wifes sharan last year,
I remember it was very hard to know which side was gone,
i changed the left side and it was the right one but to be honest
all i could do was make a good guess and go for it, failing
that i was going to have to change the other side if i was wrong,

Left side is always a good guess as its the side of the road with potholes, roughness
etc

make sure none of the tyres have gone outta shape.....
jacking up car and spinning wheels on 4x4 wont work...
check for top and bottom play holding the wheel on each corner of car but chances are it will have no play...it may then be a case of replace one at a time

If a bearing is gone, will it affect the tracking? Just thinking that he could check for uneven tyre wear to indicate the side with the problem?

hi robbie, actually that is good point. jst got alignment couple days ago and man said that rear right wheel cant put properly :ponder: may be that case :dontknow:
thx anyway will try everything 2moro.

Get all wheels up on jack or lift.
Start car and get someone to bring it up to 50 mph then drop the clutch and listen to each hub individually

as above thats the only way to know, if you can get a mechanic stetascope its easier to trace the noise i have fitted rear left to my bug twice
