Anyone know the length and type of belts on the ej20, power steering and aircon belts, i think my need replacing as there is a horrible whining noise coming from the engine after a cold start while idling and any time i driving within the 1st half hour and i easy off the accelerator you can hear the noise again. Hopefully its old belts and not pulleys! are they handy enough to change?

having the same sort of thing myself... awful squeely sound coming from them when started from cold.... going to give them a bit of a tighten now at the weekend and see if that helps..... its only really started since we got all this frost and cold weather...

Dead handy to change, half hour job to do. Just get the numbers off the belt.

Try any decent Subaru garage €20 a belt.

Here's a pic of the pulleys, slackin everything off the put back on

with the new belt, adjust so nice and tight.

Hope that helps.

Could be Pete.

But if you want to tighten them unscrew the screw on the left hand side of the cover and roll it back. Just under and left of the Air con pully theres a nut on a long screw. You'll need an extension reachet to reach it with a 10 mm head. Not sure how to gage when its tight enough bu if you just give it a couple of turns I'm sure you won't be in trouble.

so if i replace the belts and its still the same, could it be a dodgy pulley maybe? are they pricey/awkward to replace?

Thats true, get the exact one, moisture will cause some squealing noise.

There's a belt spray that will help silicone based stuff, never use WD40 it only helps

the belt fall apart quicker.
