right lads i was in the car awhile ago cruising in 3rd doing about 40 and when i put the foot down there was no boost at all for a split second, it happened again as i took off from traffic lights in 1st and 2nd gear and then she got all jumpy like it wasnt getting any juice....when it happens the boost gauge would read beteween 5 psi and 7 psi and it wouldnt go any higher than that....im paranoid outta me head now so has anyone any ideas what it could be  maf maybe? cheers lads...

thats what my maf went like when it was on the way out. I didnt know what it was then it happened more often and eventually it was constant.

no flashing dash lights or anything it just happened twice in the space of ten minutes and then sorted it self out...it happened aswell during the week but i just thought she was just cold...

Thats the way mine went aswell, it happened once then it was grand for weeks but i did eventually get a CEL comin up on the dash

feck it anyway :wall: when i put new coils in a few months back my mechanic said she was jumpy and holding back for awhile but it seemed sorted itself out....would the maf start acting up every once in awhile now or would ye think im better off changing it :dontknow: karma sent lads cheers

Ya cant be sure thats what it is until it gets more frequent. A MAF from subaru is €480. I got mine from Import car parts, they do genuine subaru parts for half the price, My MAF cost €280 from them.

Check it out: http://www.importcarparts.co.uk/parts.asp?cat=68&sub=334

I'd wait till it happens more often and starts chuggin all through the revs and a CEL comes up. then ya can have the CEL checked or ya can unplug the MAF and if the car gets better then thats your problem

What you are actually doing isnt really a good idea :naughty:, you should get this sorted asap and if possible not drive car until then :hand:, this will seem as scare mongering, but there is method to my madness,
MAF can be sneaky little fookers, from a good source i was told that your maf could kick up 2day and run like shite, and 2mro you go out and she grand and you think brilliant it cured itself, but this not case, your car has adjusted its timing and fueling to suit the maf and thats why it seems to be fine... you think it is and keep on driving  and unknown to urself your pile driving the big ends out of car.. :icon_cry: a lot of engine failures have 2 simple simple causes..... No.1 and not to be underestimated.. bad cone filter or panel filter that contain an oil that will stick to wire in MAF and cause it to Fook up... and as a result No.2...MAF malfunction.

Never heard about the MAF adjusting timing or pile driving the big end :ponder: I would think if the ignition timing and air/fuel mix is adjusted it would cause detonation! Which would bring on the CEL straight away. But the rest of what ya said here is so true, A faulty MAF will cause the car to run rich as it doesn't know how much air its getting.

It will be hard to diagnose the problem without a CEL coming on, as the diagnostics don't always show the actual problems without an error code (DTC). As I've said before the Lambda oxygen sensor on the exhaust throws up the same symptoms as a MAF because it too will change the air/fuel mixture

took the maf off yesterday and cleaned the wires in the maf with a maf spray cleaner that a buddy got off the internet...he used this stuff on his skyline when his maf was acting up about a year ago and it has,nt run bad since....my yolk seems to be grand now but im gettin it checked out during the week...cheers lads  :subaru:

Im no expert on timing, but if the car does adjust timing due to MAF giving wrong info or failing, and adjusts it to the point where she is firing at tdc, the conrod would be on its full extent and basically at 90 degress to crank, so the force of ignition is directly forced down on top of crank, where as conrod should be starting its return journey and not at 90 degrees.. not having near the force put directly downwards on crank that make any sense?????
