Boost problem

My car doesnt boost fully sometimes and id like to get it sorted asap as its getting a bit annoying now,

I have a digital boost controller in the car that has a built in digital boost gauge which is set to the standard 0.8 bar as the car is completely bog standard,

Thing is sometimes when i floor it the car will boost right up to 0.8 no problem but other times it wont go past 0.4 bar and basically struggles after that,

I disconnected the boost controller to see if that was the problem but it still happens :wall:

Anyone got any ideas???

could the turbo be on the way out?

what turbo is it?
and how many miles on it?
are you getting any smoke out the back when excellerating

The car sounds and drives fine but just wont boost fully all the time,
Has standard ecu (code W6 as far as i can rember),
Car itself is a 93 wrx but had a 96 v2 engine fitted a while back (maybe the ecu should of been changed too :dontknow:)
Its not mapped as far as i know of,
Has standard turbo, 98k kms on new engine and im not seeing smoke when i accelerate

Check the usual suspects! Split pipe etc
As far as I am aware the v1 and v2 engines used different ecu's? But I would wait for someone to confirm that before goin changing things!!!!
Have you noticed is it only in a certain gear? As in first gear and second gear full boost
Third and fourth gear half boost etc

Checked all pipes for leaks no suspects found,
Was told it could be a sticky actuator or maybe my dump valve :ponder2:
Every gear is the same, it will pull hard like its supposed to but then when it gets around .4 bar it wont boost any further

Took the car out for a spin there and it boosted 100% right up to 0.8 bar but i know i could take it out again in an hour and it wont boost past 0.4 so id really like to sort this problem asap if anyone has any suggestions??? Thanks

Hi breno,i had the very same think not so long ago :wall:

I had all vac pipes out, all air intake out, changed the actuator, cleaned the MAF,reset the ecu a few times, changed the dump valve and stripped it down for a good clean.

All above did not work so next i got a td05 turbo off froggy and all was good and still is :icon_jook:

Hope this helps as i was pissin around trying to fix my car for weeks and weeks :icon_hang:

Hey Rob, thanks for the input

If only i knew for sure it was the turbo i could go down to froggy to get it sorted, is there any way of knowing for sure???

P.s - How much did it cost you to replace the turbo?

There was no play on the td04 turbo that came out of my car but its fixed now and theres more time for a bit of lovin with the old wagon (car) :multijump:

210 is a decent price i was expecting more, did you get froggy to fit it for ya???

I just wanna get it sorted so i can give mine the lovin she deserves

Hate seeing it lying up going to waste :wall:

I have the exact same problem .4 bar :( . only thing is mine doesnt happen that often though..
breno when you loose boost, what happens when you lift off the pedel and then slam it back on? mine then boosts fine.

One of the lads in work said his bro has a turbo from a 94 sti, anyone know if this would fit a 96 v2 wrx engine?

Been doing some research and it seems the 93-96 cars all used the same turbo so might get that sti one and see if it sorts my problem,

Anyone knows if its a big job changing it?
