Bora vs toledo - advice please

sti 9029

Petrolheads
I'm looking to buy one of the above cars and would just like to hear any input or advice

2001 bora silver,92k miles,6 months nct,no tax i think,18" wheels,

or

1999 toledo,black,120k miles,,18 months nct,,2 months tax,

both cars are €2500,,now although they are normal enough cars the car lover side of me is still shining through and i much prefer the toledo looks wise
probably cos black is my favourite colour even though i know the bora is prob a better buy so i dunno what to think!!

suggestions please!!

Basically the same car underneath the badge engineering , probably go for the bora as less miles and is newer car , parts might be easier got 2 seen as its a more common car , electric windows are known soft point on them , the regulators fook up every so often

Steer clear of both.

Heaps of sh1te. My missus has 1.4 Leon and its broken our hearts...leaks like a sieve when it rains, burns oil like a gulf oil field amongst many other things

Lads have to disagree, we had a tdi Leon for a 2-3 years and it never gave any bother. I would have a Seat over a VW any day. VW's are over rated in my opinion..

used to work in a subaru/seat dealership in the broadstone and never any problems with that model toledo

any make of car those years with high milage ur going to need work done or will have in future get work done, second hand cars is a gamble, neighbour of mine has 00 bora and all his kids have learned to drive in it and cound not fault it,

what engine is in them? if its the 1.4 16v or 1.6 stay clear there the worst engines VW have made in a long time. tbh the toledo is going to have a better spec then the bora,

as for what goes in them the usual mk4 stuff....hinges on doors, window regs, indicator stalks, bushing's all round, if the rear axel bushing is gone dont bother with it, they need to be pressed in (trust me on that), CV joints, then it all depends what engine is in them.

oh and you can be unlucky and get a mk4 based car that needs a new steering rack, they are known to fail.

anything else? hope that helps.

Owned a Seat Ibiza 130pd 1.9tdi for 6 years
Only sold it when I was lookin at the wagon I have now
Fantastic car never a moments bother with it!!! Wish I knew where it was now
Would love to have it back again

tdi's are good to go, just watch out for rattle from the dual mass flywheel, if its a PD make sure its oil was changed often. also the 6sp box can be a little bit soft.

The Ibiza's 6 speed box was 1 of the most precise gear boxes I ever used!!!
never had a minutes bother with it!!!!!
Only thing that ever gave an issue was the air con unit!!!!

I'd personally go for which ever car has more power, ie. one may be the 110bhp and the other 90bhp!
Then map the bejesus out of her!
If all is equal, I'd go for the Bora!
I have been driving the heart and soul out of my Golf gttdi pd 150, (mapped to near 200bhp) for 3 years now, and I have put 1 gearbox into her and 2 sumps (She's very low!)
Toledo is pretty though.
