brake problems

i've noticed alot of break dust on my front drivers wheel this week, and brought it to a macanic this morning and checked out the caliper and it was mad hot and he told me my caliper was siezed. He checked it out and told me it was ok and he freed out the brake pads which he thought was sticking and might be the problem, but by the time i got home the front caliper was mad hot again so i have checked it there again and i think the caliper is siezed. They are the standard calipers.~I rang finnegans garage today and he told me they can get a kit for it but my macanic says kits are not always a success so what should i do,get a second hand one or get the kit for them????Also i was told you need a special machine to bleed the brakes if you put on new calipers so does any of you guys know about this????Advice would be appreicated and have any of ye any to sell??? :cuckoo: :cuckoo:

I am a motorcycle mechanic and i can tell ya that you need NOTHING special to bleed up your brakes even if you fit new or recondition your calipers, but it may take a bit longer to get it right if doing it the old fashioned way. Depending on the price of the seal kit, i'd get it. I've rebuilt many calipers in my time and if its done right and the piston is cleaned properly its like a new caliper

On the other hand you could take this chance to upgrade to subaru 4 pot front calipers

nice lookin set of brakes but finnegans told me tday id have 2 change the brake resovor as well and put me off the idea so just want 2 get her sorted out at moment, will have 2 bring the wifes car wit me 2 work in mornin :icon_cry: :icon_cry: :icon_cry:

Replace the reservoir? You mean the master cylinder? That doesn't make sense mate. A seized caliper has nothing to do with the master cylinder. If the master cylinder was faulty then your brake pedal would be very soft or possibly not operate at all. And how he can tell that while there is a seized caliper on the car i don't know because that would give a false feeling in the pedal anyway. I've worked on cars with faulty master cylinders. And I don't get why he'd say a seal kit might not work! Of course it will work! The seals stop the piston moving, replace the seals, clean the pistons and the caliper is new again. That's it!

I'd get a second opinion mate, honestly. I've worked on brakes for 8 years and this is not making sense to me :snooty:

I'm confused as to how the resevour would have anything to do with one of your calipers sticking!
I really think you'd be better off giving her into one of the site traders/tuners instead of a maindealer,
What calipers are on her?? If not scooby 4 pots then defo upgrade,
You will have to change your pads either way because the pads will have worn unevenly already!

Let us know how you get on!

I agree with the lads, changing the callipers is the easiest option. check www.partsfinder.ie and get 2 second hand callipers. fixing runners on the calipers is only a half arsed job

"Also i was told you need a special machine to bleed the brakes" :cuckoo: :cuckoo: :cuckoo: :cuckoo: :cuckoo: :cuckoo: He must be slightly special himself

no prolem putting seal kit on once the pistons are not pitted by rust. don't need anything else to bleed the brakes, i have a brake fluid pump, it's handy for changing fluid. but if you are bleeding air out i still find the old fashioned way the best. they probably mean the master cylinder instead of the reservoir if changing to a different caliper because they are both matched and could cause an unballance on front to rear braking. i personally feel four pots give a more even balance of braking with standard rears. :subaru:

special tool....    the only special tool is the lad tellin ye that ye need one.
a coke bottle, a lenght of clear hose and a mate to pump the pedal is all ye need.

Thats a load of crap man, you dont have to change anything to fit 4 pot front calipers, you will need adapter brackets for the rear but they are around 75 sterling from godspeed.

I think they are trying to rip ya off mate :wall:

It would be 2 pots on the rear, (like the classic tyre r and new age wrx) Not 4 pots on rear
