Sunday Drivers
hi,

kind of having second thoughts, i currently have standard wrx brakes on my car but yesterday got a few bits, ebc red stuff ceramic front and rear pads, hell performance brake lines and new handbreak shoes plus genuine oil filter and magnetic sump plug but im kind of thinkin am i better to upgrade to 4pot front and 2pot rear?? the car will only be used as a weekend car so not a daily driver so would it be worth the hastle of changing now or will the set up i have to throw in be grand?? also il be ordering new performance grooved disks front and back too when funds are there and all thrown in together.
cheers

rob

No doubt the 4 pots are a better caliper!
So if funds allow, by all means grab them! they will bolt straight on!
I'm not entirely sure if wrx and sti disc sizes are the same, but if you are getting new ones anyway, happy days!

Chances are your WRX brakes will do you grand, but If you drive like me, then you'll need the 4 pots!
Use good motul brake fluid while you are at it!

And obviously, if you ar enot 110% confident in your ability to do the job right, then be sure to let a pro do it for you!

Very best of luck man!
Dan

WRX discs are 277mm (2 Pot caliper)
STI discs are 294mm (4 Pot caliper)

But as Dan said, you current setup with good discs, pads, lines, fluid will be fine for weekend driving, unless you plan on doing track days or driving like a lunatic (or Dan :icon_biggrin: ) you'll be grand.

Ideally if you had the cash spare then i'd go with the 4 Pot setup, even just do the front as thats where all the weight goes when your braking.

Just remember that the fluid is the most important, if that boils then it wont matter how good your discs/pads are your brakes will fade. I'd recommend Motul RBF660

cheers for the reply lads!

ah bien honist i doubt it will ever see the track! would love to go but not in this car, maybe a normal wrx or sti, the ra gearbox is too short for track id say,be hittin the limiter in 5th in no time! lol
i do like some spirited runs every now and then but i find the standard set-up was grand and obviously with the items i have now will improve it more, sur i might throw in this setup first and see, can always upgrade again after that! funds arent that good at the moment as im unemployed.
ya i have no prob doin the work meself so will save a bit of money there!
i have dot 5.1 break fluid, thought that might be good but if ya recomend the motul stuff il be going for that  cheers!
any idea how much that stuff costs and how much i need? about 2 liters?

The RBF660 is actually Dot 4 fluid but it has a higher boiling point than the Dot 5.1 so it better stuff. 1 litre should be enough, it comes in 500ml bottles from memory. Think its about €15 a bottle but can't remember the exact price now, i'm not far off the price there anyway

I wouldn't be put off track because of your close ratio box, Mondello is not that fast of a track. Allot of lads here that do track days have type r's and what not, all with the close ratio box

exact opposite in fact shorter gearbox mush more useful around mondello...you'd get nowhere near top end in 5th

as above, only in 5th once in mondello to take the pressure of the engine on the main straight and thats in a type r,

you really only use 2,3,4 in mondello as its not that fast a track, about 100 mph on the main straight before braking depending on the car.

your ra box will be prefect for the track

hmmmm cheers lads, was never there befour so wasin too sure! she might see it at some stage so!! :icon_biggrin:
cheers for the info lads
