fitted new acl bearings, rings, and cometic head gaskets 3 months ago, took it very handy on engine, changed oil twice with castrol 10w60 and just got home now to hear loud knock from big end :icon_cry: i never rebuilt engine fully as in uprated oil pump, pistons etc because i couldnt afford it, im gutted :icon_cry:, dont know what il do now as funds are very tight.

Pointless rebuild without crank inspection, oil pump, rods and pistons. Its hard to swallow but realistically it may be time to take a break from subaru if not affordable. Even if only for 6 months buy a reliable daily skip and gather few pound for full rebuild. Sorry to hear.

thanks,ya your probably right, i did fit a crankshaft to it at the time,it was measured and checked and was ok. id say the oil pump was my problem. I think now il get an engine somewhere and sell it, im as sick as a dog over it.

yes changed it,power hosed the blocks, the sump, everything was very clean going back together. took it really easy on engine, did 2 oil changes.

where was it rebuilt? in a clean room?

if you do it again, don't reuse parts

new bearings
new con rods
new crank, or as a last resort an inspection from a competent person/business, but i wouldnt risk it
new modine
new sump
new oil pump

and maybe pistons

do it right and do it once

sorry to hear it though buddy :new_puppy_dog_eyes:

thanks bud,im a mechanic, rebuilt it with my boss, rebuild was no problem, its easy job. i just couldnt afford to put all new stuff into it.i got crank checked, rods checked, all seemed good.even the pistons looked good. never got oil pump checked, just cleaned it out so id say that was my main prob. think il just stick an engine in it now and sell it.

yeah the pump would be full of swarf, and even washing it/flushing it you wouldnt get rid of the small stuff

lots of people are in the same boat, cant afford to swap all the parts, cheap in the short term but it never ends well :icon_sad:

onwards and upwards chap

Could have been the relief valve that was the problem originally and now again,
See a sti7 bottom end for sale in UK for i think 600 pound

thanks lads,ya dave i should have deffo put a pump in it,i did change the modine alright, Kenc where is that block for sale??

sorry to hear lad never nice to hear especially after a rebuild hope you get it sorted

You should have kept the type r Keith. Sorry to hear about the engine but hopefully you'll get it sorted out once and for all.
