Bugeye WRX vs STI

Pretty much the same from what I can gather.
Not cheap anyway lad. Deffo not worth importing a WRX. Won't make value to it when VRT is added. STI maybe if you can get a good deal abroad

It all comes down to your budget. I have had 6 wrx Impreza's over the year's before my sti I have now. I should of bought a sti years ago. There is a big difference
In them. Having said that I bought my last bug eye wrx for 2000 euros and it was a brilliant car for the money. Still a lot of fun for small money.

No better man to offer insight then Colm lol

Long story short, I reckon both cars are great fun to own and drive, but the STI obviously being better.
They're both turbo Subaru after all ????????

As per the other thread..

Subaru owners hunting the evo owners ????????

It's simple if you can afford it get an STI if you can't don't.
It's like weighing up a mediocre bird or a super model, ya she does the same job, cheaper to run, looks good from afar but far from good, does that justify it..... No

Not putting down the WRX they are a great car in there own bracket, but other than initial cost there is no reason to buy one over an STI, why settle for the ugly sister.

And the evo, might get shot for saying it but I have yet to drive an impreza that handled better than my bog standard evo 9. Didn't stop me flogging it and filling my garage with subarus though. Youd be hard pressed to buy a decent unabused evo for less than the price of a similar STI, prices have soared

Every response has been right on the money...

... Having owned two STIs and a WRX here are a few of my observations not yet covered...

- WRX has more comfortable suspension (without it being less capable driving within legal limits)
- WRX was substantially easier on fuel (e.g. wrx avg 30-34mpg depending on long / short runs; whereas 2.0 STI 24-28mpg and 2.5 STI 21-26mpg)... depending on your mileage this can make a big difference in running costs.
- WRX doesn't get the DCCD (driver controlled central diff)... BUT... IMO DCCD on pre-hatch is gimmicky and you'd play with a few times and then mostly leave it alone anyway... plus (again imo) the programming in the auto setting (the one you will use 99% of the time) is abrupt and can unsettle a car if driven near the edge and the non-dccd WRX diff gives a more consistent and predictable handling characteristic.

-Other than that, as stated several times before in other posts, STI has more power (although wrx can be upgraded to run similar power it will cost to do so and ultimately less reliable at similar power level as stock STI), Better brakes on the STI (although pads and discs good bit dearer), more grip when driven hard (although for the GC8 and GDA/GDB need to override the DCCD Auto setting to get the most out of it imo), more reliable engines for the bug/blob eye you are looking (when comparing both wrx and sti at same 280-300bhp power levels) with one caveat that the EJ257 2.5 would generally be considered less reliable, resale value of any STI will be higher than equivalent condition WRX. As mentioned before STI prices stable now and only likely to rise as they get more scarce (and importing significantly more expensive due to global rising prices and the mental VRT penalty we pay) and whereas ultimately the WRX may also increase in price it will never increase to the same extent and will be years behind the percentage price increases of STIs (historically see what happened to prices of Escorts and Sierras of 2 vs 4 door and special hot versions vs standard cars etc).

Wouldnt take anything for either car both great motors and both will give you that flat 4 smile

Obviously a WRX will be cheaper to buy run and insure esp compared to jdm sti car where insurance can be tricky

What your plans for car u get modifying or leaving it stock and just maintaince ect

My forester (250 bhp ish) gives me 70% of the buzz of the impreza with 300bhp and all the handling/engine supporting mods so it's all relative.

Also if you got a wrx 2.5 hawk there easy to get 280 ish bhp out of (just a map far as I rem) and good toqure too.

Forester be well cool too below mates Xt Prodrive PPP pack car (just after getting out of a muddy Goodwood Festival of speed car park) all the pace and lots of usability too

All things to consider
