That's not answering the question Alan.

Do you not trust ecc or 2.5 engine

sorry didnt know it was a quiz lol...i dont trust either of them TBH after what i experienced the 2.5 they built failed and the car spent most of the 1st year of it life after been built back up there under warrenty having the maps adjusted and never got it sorted and when up there it developed problems which needed me spending money outside the work been sorted under warrenty,i had problems with the rotated turbo kit they fitted, headgasket failure, numrous map issues cutting out, each time i goit the car back it had no fuel left in it and petrol light on,car was use to demo there 2.5s without my permission i was told this by a guy who was taken out in it,numrous cds in cd changer when i got it back note they wearnt mine, employees using my car to get to work while clocking up run in miles then i was charger 200gbp for fuel plenty more but i hope it clears up that no i dont trust them or the 2.5 engine :thumbsup:have documents to back up above

I don't think that has anything got to do with it been a 2.5.

What was the cause of failure?

jonny the above quote is why i dont trust ecc and from that experience with mine failing while they looked after it is why i dont like 2.5s as they can be unrealiable and put me off them, and from what ive learned now what i didnt know then is they are prone to h/g failure for what ever reason each case maybe different, build spec/builder/componants

on the forums from what people post and people ive spoke to and my self is the 2.5s are prone to headgasket failure weather std or built for whatever reason maybe build quality high boost ect? ?, they tried to tell me that arp changed there torque setting on the studs and that caused the failure i dont believe that anyway acouple of engine builders i know told me thats cods wollop,i was only running 400bhp at i think 1.4 bar so not exactly massive power or boost

So basically nobody has a good word to say about that car... not what I was hoping for. :icon_sad:

Not worried about the extra 370 euro tax over a 2l a year or the mpg.

Just if anyone has this type of car, if ye had any info about the car. what its like in general, any info at all. said I wasnt going to mod the engine and as far as I know, thats when the problems seem to happen.

After all this negative thought I might be having second thoughts... :icon_cry:

Also that statement from subaru was for the 08/09 model and they blame modding the engine caused engine failure and other damage... but interesting to read all the same.

liam there are plenty of lads out there driving hawk sti and wrx 2.5 with no issues it depends what you want the car for if a nice quick road car just put on an exhaust system ,remap and fuel pump and it will be 330-340 bhp if ya can drive that right it will be quick enough and still reliable

As i said thats all I want the car for. maybe down the line id remap it but thats as far as id go with that engine. just wanted to know is it a good car if thats all I want out of it or am I still asking for trouble buying one.

my 2.0 is quite jealous of the 2.5's torque

2.0 is a higher revving

and hawk is last of the great impreza's

if not going past mods you mentioned i would have little hesitation i buying the best impreza i could . (2.5 )

Liam, I wouldn't let this thread put you off as its all a load of crap talk.

Some guys are pointing you in the wrong direction about the later 2.5 engines in the hatchback that have problems,

Alan is referring you to his car that ran 400bhp and was highly modded and he doesn't know how it was ran in but it was a demo car for that company.

Nether of these stories relate to what your looking for.

There are many lads on here with the 2.5 hawk in wrx form and Sti form and none has had any issues side of the norm which are few and far between.

They are a great car and IMO the 2.5 suits the Sti as you don't have to over rev it with all the torque you get from the 2.5 and every here always tells newbies that scooby's don't like to rev to high.

Holy sh1t..when did that come in?

1294 a year for a 2.5....crazy..I think it was 900 only 3 years ago?

have my hawk sti over 2 years and with the exception of replacing the thermostat and the almost unheard of cat failure my car has ran problem free . i wouldnt let people who have never owned or ran a 2.5 turn you against one . find a well cared for original car and you will love the car

Phil Kirwan in Co. Wexford has a few 06 sti's for sale, i bought a car off him a few weeks back and he showed them to me,they are mint, he's worth a chat to,might help you.

Driving a hawk sti myself as my daily driver since 2008, done two trackdays and the car has never missed a beat. Timing belt is only major job I've had done other than that its just basic service which if your doing yourself reall don'tcost that much. Great car love the drive and thelow down torque from the 2.5. Get it bought and enjoy it :subaru:

You are right about the link ( I apologize for this) , Only posted because that was the last thing I read in this subject so ignore this . You can find a number of other topics related to earlier EU 2.5

100% agree . great car and there are a couple of beautiful, well minded examples in the club.
What I tried to say and sorry if I didn`t make it clear : In My opinion the JDM hawk is a better car than EU hawk AS A STANDARD CAR.

Just out of interest

How many jdm hawk Sti's are there in this country. I can only think of a few spec c that came in but none standard sti's???????

Don't think there's any JDM hawks in the country that are not Spec C's or S204's. There are even very few standard JDM Widetrack blobs.

ya have my eye on a couple of them around the country, so just have to narrow it down to one and hopefully get a good original one. has to be in blue and want it factory standard. Cant wait to get it though. The girlfiend is fairly sick of hearing subaru subaru subaru.

Sure if anyone else thinks of anything I should know of about the car let me know.

Ill let ye know when I have it narrowed down to one car and post it up before I buy it.

as ya said liam post up the link and maybe someone will be able to give you some insight to the car, don't rush at the first one you see it's a buyers market best of luck with the search mate
