well lads,
went shopping for a car up north yesterday with my dad for a motor for my sister and was totally amazed at the value for money up there.....
can safely say,i'll never buy a car down here again...
only problem now is settling on what the next car to buy is gonna be....
we ended up buying a 2008 mazda 5 mpv for 8600 sterling with 6k euro vrt!!!!!saving bout 5k on whats down here...
demo mazda mps for 16k....260 bhp fwd....vrt will probably be huge but lot of performance for small money!!
eastwoods in lisburn doing great deals also but much better to do cash deals without the trade ins..

good luck shopping!!!!

Bought an 07 Ford Galaxy up north. By the time we'd paid, vrt and cleared it it was a few €'s over €20k. Same car is being sold for betwenn €27k and €30k here.

And that was before the conversion rate went like it is now!

was looking at a 08 sti in england 19700sterling--20700euro happy days then

36%of omsp 55000euro have to pay just over 20000euro vrt :angry1:

Its a proper disgrace the way the Irish government are getting away with these illegal taxes!! :angry1: :angry1: :angry1:

Couldn't believe it when i seen the prices of new Imprezas in Total Impreza this month!!

Dont worry they will learn the hard way, shame it will fu*k us over while they are learning the fact we arnt willing to be ripped off by these shower of wankers no more.

Be very careful here when registering this car or you may get caught for VAT of 21.5% also and its possible it being a demo. The car MUST be 6ths old and have done 6,000 Km's or you will get stung for the vat also which could be a nasty surprise for your sister.

its already had an owner....
16.5k miles on it...
its also a january 2008 car so it should be alright!!!!
thanks man!!

so your sayin if you buy brand new....
you'll have vrt plus 21.5% on top of that....
:ponder2: :ponder2:

Ah she is grand so, she just has to pay the vrt. I just posted it in case as it would be terrible to get caught that way. Yep if you buy a new car(the deem anything under 6 months and 6k kms) as new and its vat and vrt. I presume that if it was brand new as in unregistered in the norht or UK that you could claim back the UK 15% vat and pay the 21.5 here but in the case of a registered car, I am fairly sure you would not be able to reclaim the UK vat and get caught for the vat on the double if it doesnt meet the 6 month/6k km rule. You would definitely have to pay Irish vat anyway.

yep as sonic74f said but nearly sure its over 6,000 miles/ 10,000km and over 6 months old. If not then 21.5% VAT on euro price paid in sterling.
