padraig your looking at serious buck building a rally car
just out of interest why dose it have to be a civic

have to start 1600cc and the hondas are very reliable prob the best 1600 you can get.. when i give it the odd rub which i will.. lacking in the driving talent department but hope to improve..front bumber 20euro cheap lights, wings at your local autos factors...

To enter Clubman wouldnt cost a fortune to build, i know it would cost a bit but at least you would know the car intemitly and know what you have. Think i would start with a Honda aswell.
Buy a Type R and use it

rallycarsforsale.net

might have something on it to suit you?

my mate bought an impreza a few years back to go and tackle the stages.between waiting lists,insurance,liscences....etc,etc......

he went north every sunday morning with me to the alltrak events.
no comp liscence needed.just arrive and drive.

much cheaper than stage rallying.

8 classes in all,from 14year olds to old men/women.
generally 6 runs per class on the day and competition is tight!!

they are doing mondello now,as a sprint, backwards,as you may have seen the last 2 years.

cheap and cheerful if you like

personally if i was starting out in rallying id be looking at a pug 205 or nova
theres a few for sale with spares and tyres packages for relativly small money
there easy enough to work on and great fun cars to drive
also bear in mind if you want to be competive in your class you will have to spend,
there are lads out the running 220 / 230 bhp novas in the 1600 class
id also go into rallying with your eyes open rallying even at the lower levels is expensive,
maybe talk to a few lads in the class you intend to run and get there opinions,
im not trying to put you off but i know a few lads that built cars and and intended on running them cleaply
then not being able to afford to run them and lost there bollix on them when they sold em
also if you buying a built car make sure all the safety equipment is in date.
best of luck with whatever you decide, i will be on the ditch shoutin ya on

civic on donedeal there 7500 posted yesterday. dibs on passo seat for a spin if ya purchase ;-)

Keep watching rally.ie and donedeal, you have the right choice anyway.Stay with trying to find a decent civic.Pugs and Novas are grand but will actually cost you a fortune in the long run in reliability and parts are getting very scarce for them. If you see a civic that fits the bill but you think its too dear then bid the seller and you would be surprised. A buddy went to view one in galway a few months ago-the thing was only built last year - was advertised at nearly 8 grand but he bought it for just under €6.5k as he was ready to take it away that evening and had the cash for the seller.

Best of luck in your search

would love to go with an ek9 type r civic... but all the cars that are built are ek4 sir or vti... wondering why you dont see more ek9 being built..

seen a 95 ek4 sir 2 weeks ago but it was kinda tired out and took a few hits.. good few years of rallying done and seats and belts were out of date and no dif or no ecu up grade offfered him 5k but wouldnt take it.. i dont think it was even worth that glad i didnt buy would hav e to spend a few grand more to sort

anyone ever use trackday performance he quoted me 1500 to supply and fit custom cage.. pm me please about this

Id say the reason the EK9 was never really popular is the cost of buying the road car to begin with, its only over a year ago they were up around 6 to 8k to buy, they are more reasonable now to start with.

Any motorsport is costly, ive come to the conclusion now that there is no cheap form of it, whether is Quad racing, rallying, hot rod, track days etc etc.
Id say you could get a cheaper cage solution than what you have mentioned.

Have you thought of Hill climbs at all?

Hi , I compete and I would say a civic is your best bet , run class 2 ,non modified, easy to buy and run and sell on again , make are it has good suspension, pro flex, the car isnt the expensive part , tyres 130 each, suit helmet hans all cost around 1500 entry fee around 400 per event ,it ll cost 1200/1500 per rally (2 tyres new ,entry fee ,accomadition, fuel for rally car service van recce car and leaving the car back to the condition it was in before the rally brakes, bushings etc) this isn't including damages or breakages.
BUT ,it s all well spent ,the buzz of driving as hard as you can with nothing coming the opposite direction is great ,it's a drug
Pm me for or call for a chat I can get you run in a civic or a 1600 mk 2

It's a great sport and an amazing thrill ,you ll not spent money modifying a road car again:)

well lads just bought a civic to build... got a white 3door 97 sir on jap plates never been on irish roads its mint.. shame to strip it so good.. it will be a slow build have alot of commitments at mo so will take my time and as the funds come in.. but happy out on the first step now.. mite do a few track days while trying to pick up stuff and get a feel for the car... :multijump:
